    Hi all

I am currently in the process of getting a decent "groot" sump, but it might still be some time and I have a 3ft tank just standing there...

I want to convert this into a temporary sump, which should afterwards be able to re-use as tank again.

Regarding the dividers: I was thinking sliding perspex sheets in from the top, but the following issues:

How to put it into place that it fits tight enough without: (a) Damaging the glass (b) Not being able to remove it.
How to "seal" it against the glass so that I can properly regulate the flow. (Also, 100% flow regulation not needed for temporary setup)
Must be tight enough so that water don't push the perspex out of place.....

    Any ideas would be appreciated!!

    PB

Simplest sollution is to use an old bucket/plastic container with holes drilled in the bottom. Place your filter media in the bucket, cover it with some floss and allow the water to flow from your tank into the bucket. The floss allows for the water to trickle over the filter media. Try to raise the bucket a little to help water flow out the bottom. Quick and easy and no damage to your 3ft. I'm using a modified version of this as a sump for my discus tank and it works a charm.

You could always just use and open plan sump. Just have the inlet on one side, the media swooshing around, and the pump on the other. Just make sure there is lots of oxygen in the water.

    Thinking out the box here...

Create the dividers out of perspex, and separate them with perspex bracing. 2 on top and 2 on bottom. Basically create an entire setup that then slides INTO the tank from above.

I know you wont believe me, but that is exactly what I was thinking..... doesn't however help me with the issue of fitting it tightly without damaging the glass....

Don't stress about fitting it tightly. Even if there's a 1 to 2mm tolerance. You can always "plug" those gaps with good ol' filter will. Heck, you could even silicon- comes off easy enough.

Alternately get some rubber / foam seals.

It's temp... doesn't need to be perfect

it's a sump... thus invisible to the main display
