Not sure if I read you correctly, if you want to build this tank with 5mm glass it might be too thin. I think the min for that size tank is 6mm.

I am no expert on glass thou!!!!

The glass will need to be much more than 5mm, probably around 10mm.

I also agree on the glass being thicker. 10mm should be fine.

I would suggest having a metal stand custom built and then covering it up with wood. That would be much safer/stronger.

It shouldnt be a big problem to go a bit thiker, the reason for the 5mm is I saw a tankt on the shops also +- 300l with 5 mm glas so yea. But will rater be a bit safer than drying up 300l of water and trying to safe the fish this is for the living room.

WAY over kill! I have a 2.5m x 0.8m pane using 10 mm.(1200L) Use 8mm. The cost difference between 8 and 10 is expenentially higher!

    Hmm...

I am not 100% sure, I would suggest going to your local Hardware store and asking them for suggestions, also consider a good sealer\varnish!

1 of my 2nd hand tanks has wooden cabinets, I had to do some re varnishing on it. Used 1 thinned coat (mixed with mineral turps) & 2 thick coats.

All is well so far, I would just suggest having sliders, making sure water doesn't drip on the wood etc... to keep it in good condition

The 1 I have is a standard cabinet I think mostly made from chip board laminated with an oak finish.

Its my first cabinet type tank and my advise will definitely be to stay away from chipboard for a tank - gets damaged too quickly, rather go with solid type woods.

In terms of support structure from the research I have been doing for my new tank, I like the option where you have a good solid steel\metal stand and you clad\wrap the metal stand in a good quality wood of your choice!

    Not sure if this helped.
