    Hi everyone.

    I found this awesome site

    http://www.qsl.net/w2wdx/aquaria/diyco2.html

As a rule of thumb, each two-liter bottle will provide enough gas for up to 30 gallons of tank water, assuming you use an efficient method of mixing the gas and tank water.

So I would actually need 11.2 liters sure 2 x 5 liter bottles will work might even use 3 x 5 liter bottles.

I see in most diy co2 yeast mixes you use 1.6 liters for the first mix and then 250ml for the other part of the setup so in total the mix is 1.850 liters

Has anyone done diy co2 for such a big tank or lets rather say over 100 gallon tank.

I will be using Joshua tree DIY Co2 method only thing I will change is I will be using brown sugar I read on the net that it works better.

    Any thoughts on this.

At the moment I cannot get pressurized Co2 thought DIY route would work fine for a couple of weeks.

I will make a new yeast mix every 7 days.

    Please advise.

I use diy co2. here is my recipe for a standard 2L bottle. it lasts me 2 weeks.

    400g of white sugar.
1 teaspoon of baking soda.. to keep the acidity and alcohol from killing the yeast... ie generator will last longer.
3/4 to a half a teaspoon of normal cooking yeast.

this mix will give you a bubble every 7 seconds or so after a week.

you need to activate the yeast before putting it in the mix.
1 thing that is important to know is that temperature affects the diy co2 massively. now that the temperatures are much lower the co2 does not run optimally and you need more reactors to get many bubbles like in summer.

I found DIY CO2 to be ineffective on my set ups. I wasn't getting enough, and the constant depreciation in flow rate cause massive outbreaks in BBA!

How big were your setups and how often were you redoing your bottles?

I have only had success with DIY CO2 in tanks that had a small water surface area ... it was not about water volume but about the lack exchange of at the surface that made DIY possible.

In the end I opted for low tech no CO2 till I could get my paws on pressurized kit.

I will rather just keep on dosing my excel 3 - 4 times a week, might even start dosing every day.

Until I can get my hands on pressurized co2 in the next few months.

I am currently running DIY CO2 on a 63 Gallon, I am using 2 x 2 litre bottles with two cups of sugar and a teaspoon of Brewers yeast on each one. I treplace them once a week. To get optimum use of the CO2, I am using a home build CO2 reactor. This system works well for me, I recommend that you use some kind of CO2 reactor

I am currently still deciding if I must use 2 - 3 x 5 Liter bottles for my DIY CO2. Maybe the money fairy brings R1500-R2000 to my place so I can go pressurized co2 sooner then later:laugh:

If anyone wants to donate your are more then welcome:idea:

Just try the DIY route. You can always pack it in if you are unhappy with the results. It's cheap and will definitely help your plants. Just try to keep everything constant. The moment your mixes look like they are running out of steam, replace them. I rotated mine weekly and wow how the plants grew.

Dude think you got me convinced, will start it up on this weekend or next weekend cause I will not be home on Saturday evening. Think I will start with 2 x 5 liter bottles can always add another one later on. Yes I will change the mixture every weekend. You just added a airpump at night. I dont have one, what must I do at night?

    Please advise.

Initially I used to turn my spraybar every night but eventually I wasn't airating at night at all.

Okay cool then I know that their should be no surface agitation when using co2. I will just move my one small spray bar up at night and when we are not home at night sometimes.
