How do you guys clean your stuff? As in your equipment, tanks etc. Is plain water ok? Is there a safe disinfectant that could be used? Do you wash off plants that have been purchased from Lfs's? What do you do, if anything?
You do get animal friendly cleaning agents - but I dont know what effect these have on your plants. Really, I think the best thing is to use boiling water and some elbow grease.
Search through the forums. There was a thread a while back where it was suggested that a dilution of Jik was the best thing to use to clean equipment. You obviously need to rinse the equipment thoroughly afterwards. Some people use salt as well, but it is apparently not as effective as Jik. There is a range of cleaning products called Earthsap that is 100% natural, no toxic chemicals. I have the window and surface cleaner, and it works pretty well. It even says on the bottle that it does not harm aquatic life or affect marine plant growth. HIH
Hi, i use undiluted vinegar to clean water marks off the tanks and to wash them out, it apparently will kill most household germs aswell [ it works great for the build up that water leaves around your tank.] I also use it diluted to wash all other equipment. I rinse everything really well afterwards and i have had no problems. I haven't used it on live plants though 'cos i think it will burn them.
