    Discus should be sold with a repeat prescript for metronidazole/flagyl, or someone should discover a cheaper OTC med for flagellates.:idea: BECAUSE EVENTUALLY one or two of those expensive creatures within the group will develop a problem. Does anyone know where i can get these meds cheap in Cape Town? I have exhausted my source of getting cheap metro and the only other option is the seachem metro from the LFS, which is R100 for about 1 or 2 doses depending on tank size:mad: What do people do that dont have access to metro...does the fish just end up suffering to death or can they recover without meds?:sad2:

    setup a small hospital tank, then you dont have to treat large water volumes.

    Visit your Vet. They normally quite willing to supply it if you explain it to them, and it never cost me more than R20 for about 20 x 400mg tablets

    Thanks @Singularity i will do that if i dont get cheap metro. i am a little hesitant to upset the pecking order as it has been rather peaceful for a while, but ill rather have them repeck than to lose a fish.

    @disco

    Apologies @Singularity - Not trying to undermine your advice here - but I would NEVER suggest moving a flagellate infected fish from its tank to a hospital tank. Thats just a recipe for disaster. The added stress of him being moved, along with him probably ending up alone in the hospital tank is surely going to lead to his death. Its much better to just leave him as is than move him, and find the Metro from a Vet or Pharmacy and treat the whole tank. You have a much better chance of healing the fish that way than by moving it.

    Regards

    Marco

    @Marco thanks, you advised me sometime in last year when i had problems and i found a source, but i have lost touch. I guess i will have another go at speaking to people that keep the meds under lock and key as it is much cheaper.
