guess it looks like an albino zebra? ...so many variations and names that people tend to mix it up. Would like to see a tank shot with them swimming around...they look dead in you hands.

Hahaha true, but taking decent pics of a swimming fish is tricky. Ask me!

    It's a Discus!

    Hi Cobus
New discus are always a nice thing to get, hey?

    I'll play!
That's the base Albino fish exported out of Malaysia..called Albino Golden.
Strictly speaking they arent GOLDEN as a strain , just a catch-all name for what feeding imparts to the overall appearance.

I have had Albino Tiger Turquoise ( think pic is somewhere on tasa)
Currrently I keep Albino CheckerBoard Turquoise, and Albino Red Leopard Snakeskin

Here's a pic from 3days ago, of my own import
    IMG02608-20110928-1624.jpg
    ~100mm Tiger Turquoise

literally 2minutes after placing into a tank
... I photographed slightly from above, Discus began turning AWAY, makes it looks "flat-chested"

Whatever the importer ordered, is what his breeder supplier named those as...
Your fish IS a type of Red Turquoise, actually Scribbled Red Turquoise selectively bred....CheckerBoards also involved in deriving similar striation.
Thailand called them Zebra Tiger (can't make their mind up!?) lol
Malaysia called them Tiger , as well as Tiger Turquoise, Zebra Turquoise.

Fish of that nature and appearance Blue Tiger Turquoise , and "Vertical" were bred 1991-97 , and popularised by the THEN prolific Gan Discus Fish Farm from Singapore, as well as by Koh Tong Heng and his more strongly reproducible fish, approaching +90% Vertical Striations.

    Anyway, enjoy your feesh!

Does anyone know what this item is? I know it might look like a turq, but it has absolutely no red or blue. It is goldish yellowish brown.

    hi cobus,

When you have fish as young, and small size, you can't play "match'em up" easily

can you list what your supplier imported for your order?
Did you get each fish ID/strain, on bag label?
If so(or not!), was supplier accurate with strain ID?

This way your guesses can be more targeted!

reminds me, I really ought to document fish I've brought into SA, kept, forwarded into trade, and/or passed onto hobbyists
    ...would help for comparison too!

Always nice to be surrounded by Discus..LOTS of them:cheesy:

That was the problem Liaquat, nothing was labbeled and it was a matter of me sorting through stacks of individual bags, trying to figure out who's who. I ordered 6 golden albinos (which I got) 6 zebras (which I got 6 tiger turqs) 6 alencer (which I got 1) 6 ss (which I got 5) and 6 leopard rings (which I got 5 normal leopards and then 4 USO (unidentified swimming object)
