    Hi Guy's

i noticed last night that one of my Discus Poo was a milky jelly looking stuff, is this from internal parasites? if so what must i use to treat it? where could it have come from? this is the first time i have seen this in my discus and they all still look healthy, the only new things that have gone into my tank is plants could it have come from there?

    Cheers

Milky jelly poo is normally a sign of a bacterial infection - this can be treated with Metrodianozole - If possible separate this discus from the others, if they are not showing the same signs.

Do a search on the forum, Prof. Bellstead somewhere gave the directions for using human tablets. Will cost you maybe R10 at your friendly pharmacist versus whatever.

Most pharmacies will stock it, but you need a script. Speak to your vet to get a script. Your house doctor (GP) can also give you a script, but they will usually charge R80 for the script. The tablets are about R10 at the pharmacy for plenty.

    Dose the water like this:
    day 1:
    30% water change
dose 7mg per liter of water
    day 4:
    30% water change
    repeat dose 7mg per liter
    day 7:
    30% water change

You can get the tablets (quite cheap if they have stock) or the more common Flagyl Suspension, which has 200mg Metronidazole per 5ml.

What is why I said " your friendly pharmacist", explain it is for your fish. Available in 200mg and 400mg, most guys will help you out. Speak to an owner pharmacist, not someone that works for a corporate chainstore(they not allowed to think for themselves).

I am trying to search for the thread where I got this dosing information from. I am sure it was posted by Prof Dirk at some point, but I copied it into a file so that is how I have this information. Not on this forum; it was another forum. But I think the rest of the post might also be helpful...

Anybody else remember this thread on the other forum?

Or if you are near Roodepoort, you can visit a vet that will diagnose and prescribe meds. Consultation was expensive at 180 bucks but that included scrapings together with analysis. Meds were insanely cheap, under 20 bucks for Flagyl and Quinibac powder
