Here's what I would do. I'll start with small 20% water changes and focus on getting all the waste out of the tank over the next few days. Cleaning everywhere till it is spotless and then try to keep it that way. Don't swing them to quickly with a massive clean up and water change, take it slow.

Discus are very sensitive to waste in our water as its a breeding ground for bacteria. Running the tank bare bottom will help with this a lot as you can then see the buildup and take care of it.

Please don't take this the wrong way but the first thing I noticed was the condition of the water and cleanliness, it doesn't look suitable for discus. Those particles with fungus on them is a no also.

Hopefully someone with experience on treating the disease and if meds are required will chime in.

My phone being spiteful won't play but see pic. What temp is tank. What color is poo? Scratching can indicate flukes but not certain. If really bad they can be visible as spots on the Gill will be visible. Gills may be pale to should be pink red

Could be flukes. But don't want to put head on block. Could be other irritation.

A potassium pomegranate (spelling ) should help. Can be obtained from clicks dischem. But put fish in hospital tank as will nuke media. But may have to sterilise tank. Perhaps @Marco can confirm.

It looked like his mind got affected by whatever he had, swimming around on the bottom in a slow circle. @Marco have you seen this before or know what it could have been perhaps? It looked similar to whirling disease but no darting.

Just saw this post now. I thing I noticed about the tank is plants in the containers with rock wool. You have to remove the plants from the containers and plant them in the substrate. The rock wool will affect the fishes gills if they pick food out of it when feeding.

    Hi guys,

    Ive never had this problem.
I see there are other Discus in this tank and they seem ok. Not showing similar signs.
This I would take as a sign that its not environmental (although ive seen ammonia/nitrite have similar effect on fish.)

I also doubt its parasitic, although there are reports of a parasite that enters the brain of Discus and causes this type, and also violent darting behaviour.

It may be bacterial. But it also may just be a singular incident.

I suggest you check your tank for any possible toxins, check source water for ammonia/chloramine, and besides that keep an eye on others. If similar issues arise youd need to get this diagnosed properly in order to treat for it.

    Regards

    Marco
