    Hey all
Im planning to get some Discus now I just want to know as they are going in my planted tank with 2 x 1200 tetra tec filters in about 380l. Will that be fine for the discus is there somthing else I can do to help with filtration. I really dont want to go the sump route.

    Any suggestions?

Are you going to keep them in a planted tank? Are they adults or babies. A planted tank and young discus are going to cause problems. These guys require many feedings a day and plants are going to make it difficult to clean.

With regards to the filters, as long as the flow is not overly strong it will be fine. I have found that if I place the output pipe of the filter facing down wood position the current is a lot slower at the same time doing good filtration. Hope you understand what I am trying to say.

Yes i want to keep them in a planted tank.
Im gonna try to get adults or as close to adults I can.
I did place the filter outlets in such way that there isn't to much current.

Just keep you filters clean then you wont have a problem good thinh is that you have 2 filters on there so you can clean them one at a time and not both so you will always have a good amount of bacteria. Discus with a sump is better because its easier to keep clean

I have a standard canister filter on my Discus setup.
    No probs.

It is worth while putting a stocking or something similar over the intake.
Prevents the worst muck getting into the filter and building up in there.

    No problem.
A friend of mine has quite an elaborate mesh tube over his.
But I find a stocking is simple enough.

    I guys.

    In need of some advice.

So im struggling to find some nice adult discus. I dont want to put baby discus in my planted tank as I dont want problems with all the feeding.

So I was thinking ive got a small 100l tank that I want to use to grow the babies out bare bottom
How many discus can I keep in the 100l just temporarily?
I want to keep 5-6 adult discus in my 400l planted tank eventually.
Can I grow out 3 at a time in the smaller 100l,will this work?

this might sound stupid but after keeping discus for many years,i have found that sponge filters worked the best for me.both adults and juveniles.bare bottom was the easiest to keep clean and all the discus were healthy and happy.i know that a well planted tank with all the goodies is nice to look upon,at the end you got to figure out what you wanna do with your discus.they are very delicate fish and with the slight discrepency, they can give you endless stress.even a good air pump with a corner filter works wonders.the secret is good clean water and i found gravel and a planted tank a hassle to maintain especially for discus.
    just my 2 cents!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand the consequences of discus in a planted tank and I am prepared to do what it takes to keep them happy.

So for now will my 100l growing up tank work?

    @OBI,
    100L for the Discus?
No, that will be too small.
Discus youngsters feel secure in groups. A minimum of 6 is advised, but people often suggest 10.
I would say at least 250L, will be ok for 6.

If fed correctly, Discus will will grow very quickly.
Mine doubled in size (from the 6.5cm when I got them) in 5 months.
