i purchased 3 discus from a lfs.i placed them in my community tank with angels and frontosas as i was short of space.did not concentrate much on the discus as i am busy with a tank for them.i have a mini internal reef system and i must say that the water is not the best of quality.i woke up this morning and guess what, the DISCUS SPAWNED.they are juveniles and i am a bit surprised as it goes against everything i know bout discus.the male is gone beserk chasing everything in sight.i only bought these fish about 2-3 weeks ago.IMG00610-20121130-0656.jpg

Consider yourself lucky! How sure are you they are juveniles? Check the eye size against the body size...they could be slightly stunned in growth and be older what you think? If they hatch...you will have fish fingers

I agree with Hennie, moreover you cant be sure if they will hatch due to various reasons.
    1. Water quality
    2. Not working male
    3. Both of them females

BTW, why did you have breeding cone there when you were not sure if they will spawn?

hi there.i breed angels as a hobby.that breeding cone was to try and source angel pairs.hence the cone.i have about three cones in that tank with 10 large angels.hopin that the eggs will last for me to determine if they are a genuine breeding pair.i never considered them stunted.they just looked extremely well defined when i was in the lfs.maybe they are,i am not sure.will keep on checking up on them.

@timothy m post some decent pics of them...there is some experts here like @Marco who will be able to tell you a bit more about them with decent pics. Did you see them spawn? Did you see the male fertelizing the eggs? Are the 2 that spawned taking turns fanning the eggs?

Look as much as people talk about Discus being really tough, they are not that tough to keep, during the years allot of breeders have succesfully spawned these guys in all different kinds of water....but if they did spawn, your water quality cannot be that bad!

its not going good.the male and female are squabbling over the eggs.i think there is too many fish in the tank as well and its causing problems.not expecting anything with this spawn.will leave them as is and try get them their own tank later
