I have a 190 liter Juwel Corner setup, and in this tank i have one oscar, aka Frank the tank, and a green terror.
Dont know if my filtration is not strong, but have a internal bio filter, and reasently got my self a under gravel filter, and still water gets dirty in less then a week?
Im not over feeding, and i do the proper cleaning, had a comunity tank, but wanted to change, but have no luck.

    regards ruan

if any one have any info for me pls.....:sad2:

    Hi and welcome to TASA!

Oscars are VERY messy fish and require strong filtration. When you do your water-changes, how much are you taking out and are you using a gravel vacuum? Also what is in the bio filter?

A 190L tank is too small for an Oscar and a Green Terror. It's actually not big enough for one of these. Both get quite big.
They are both messy feeders, and produce a lot of waste. The filter probably can't cope.

Also, at some point the 2 fish are going to have a fight as they do not have enough space. And one will probably end up dead unfortunately.

hello, i normaly take out half a tank, and do use a gravel vac.
been doing tropical fish for the past 12 years, so have every thing you need for good maintenance.

was all ways busy with the comunity setups, even went marine for a wile.
dont want to bor you with my fish storys, people say im fish mad.

so to get back to the point!!!!!!!

i have a under gravel filter, resently added.
and a 2 stage bio filter, which got the following elements.

    filter wool
    Active Carbon Songe
    Nitrate Removal Sponge
    Filter Sponge Coarse
    Filter Sponge Fine
    Cirax

IMO I would take out the nitrate removal sponge and the carbon and replace with some more bio media. What do you mean by dirty? Milky water or brown or sandy etc?

Its like all most like a yellow brown color, think it might be from the pelets...
Dont think the filters are strong enough for these dirty feeders.

Think i must change back to what i know, and i just gave away my 400L tank? But to a good friend.

    Hi Ruan83

I take it you are talking about the standard filter system in a Juwel Trigon 190L ?
If so i doubt it is enough in your case , as @Reedfish and @Firefly mentioned they are both very messy feeder's.

I have used a Trigon 350L in the past for Malawi's and also had trouble with the standard setup , i ended up converting the internal filter to mainly biological with just the fine sponge on top and a carbon sponge. I also added an external filter and used that for mainly mechanical filtration. This setup was very effective and solved my water quality issues.

    Hope this helps

    Regards,
    Roan

    hello.

i also think the filters cant cope, had a big 400L tank, but gave it to a good friend of mine, but i wanted to keep the oscar and green terror.
had them for a wile now, the oscar a bit longer then the terror.

i think im going to have to fined a new home for them, and go to planted. or comunity.
tride marine, but a bit heavy on the pocket.

    thanks for the response

    Hi Roan

    Thanks for the help.
got my self a under gravel filter with a power head, but does not seem to help.
Had a 400L tank with a sump filter that was fine, but gave it to my friend, wanted 2 try some thing smaller, but kept my oscar.

i think i might have to fined him a new house soon.

    regards Ruan.

Could be the pellets. What make are you feeding them?
Planted tanks are awesome, and some member have even started river stream type tanks. Options are endless.

Yup, a 400L tank would be more suitable.
