Digital thermometer

I have recently bought different types of Digital thermometers
The first 2 I bought from a shop in Pretoria( cannot remember the manufacturer's name now) were ones that had a probe that hangs inside the tank, and the view section is outside the tank. I did not trust those because when I put them both inside the SAME water I got 2 different readings - 2 degrees difference to be exact. Cannot remember the price but they were like R 120.00 each I think - cheap - the shop used the same ones for their reptiles and fish. ( as they say "goedkoop is duur koop"). Pretoria is too far away to bother about returning them, the petrol will cost more than they are worth and the time!!
So, about 6 weeks ago I bought 2 new ones from a shop in Johannesburg - Hailea is the brand - they were not cheap - like R 280.00 each. This type of thermometer is submerged inside the tank.
They worked perfectly until last week when one of them just went dead - I removed it, unscrewed the back and it was flooded with water inside the battery chamber. Today I get home and the other one has done exactly the same thing!!
BOTH were TIGHTLY SEALED before anyone asks - I made sure of that before I put them into the tanks.
My question is - who uses digital thermometers in their tanks and which brand is the best - I don't care about the price now - all I want is something that is reliable, ACCURATE and works properly and not just for 6 weeks !!!!

 

Yeah I know that frustration ... I have used oregon units - they see to do the trick and then also on my arduino project those seem to last - all the hobby stuff are a bit suspect I think.

 

That is so true . I bought me Boyu airpumps x2, I lost the slips, but the one stoped after 1 month, probly the rubber, but worst was the fact that it says SILINT, 1hour later you hear the thing 2 rooms away, so I got a Hailea pump, R400- 4outlets,pump like craze, was super sillint, till the next morning, who can you trust, I think its like a pnp brand that was actually silint but rubbers keep popin. Anyway these digital thermometers is quite expencive and like you said, inaccurate as I hear, so for now im trusting those koorspen thingys
