difference between a male and female 3 spot gouramis

hey everyone i just wanna know if i have a pair of these as when i bought them they told me they were too small to tell. iv noticed that one of them has lighter spots than the other could that be the female?

If they are really small it is difficult to tell. I usually look at the top and bottom fins. The male has got more pointed fins where the female is more rounder. You might be able to see this on the bottom fin.

You are correct in that the female color is not as striking as the male. And when he display for the female his whole body darkens.

thanks ace was very ineresting with the way they use the 1/2 a styrofoam cup. i think i may have females which would explain why they dont go for my betta and only chase each other
