Hi all I have a bit of a problem and would like some insight please. After dismantling my tanks two years ago I started one again in December on the 16th to be exact. The capacity is 136 l filter is a dophin 1000 canister with new media, submersible filter in tank and also a in-tank filter setup.I run co 2 at 2 bps and lighting is two 10 watt 6500 kelvin LED's tank is 350 mm deep 900 mm long and 350 mm wide.Lighting cycle is 4 hrs in the am and 4 hrs in the pm.50% water changes weekly with a UV sterilizer running 24/7 (8 Watt).Temp is set at 20 Celsius. Subs is 50 50 growth sub and 50 pfs.I dose scape complete once a day at recommended dosages

Now to the problem the issue is brown diatomes and they are busy killing everything in sight am I doing something wrong or should I write it off to NTS?Scrub daily and just wait it out?

    Regards

Not sure what fish you want to keep but I believe Otos will *love* eating your diatoms.

IME I've gotten diatoms in newly set up tanks where iv used silica-type gravels (pfs, quartz gravel). Especially when I haven't rinsed the gravel too well beforehand. Apparently the diatoms need silicate minerals to flourish, and my thinking is that the new gravel provides that for a certain amount of time (until I've done enough filter cleaning and water changes to remove the excess silica dust from the tank). It sounds like you have plenty of filtration and I'm sure with daily glass cleaning and plenty of water polishing with filter wool it will disappear with time. It's never been a long term issue in my tanks

thanks @JvH I do know about the silica based issues and rinsed the gravel for a good long time till the water ran clear will have to wait then lol even with time it would seem that you still get nervous when these things start to happen.

    Regards.
