Deworming tetras

Good day I hope someone can help or point me to a previous discussion. I noticed what appear to be internal worms on my cardinal tetras and have seen a deceased guppy that had worms coming out of it. How can I get rid of these pests? Also is it good practice to deworm fish as a precaution?

 

I've seen worms on cardinal tetras before but never internal worm.

Thank you for the post Tetra. I had a look it looks just like that but far worse. I can see the worms inside the tissue of the fish. Little white squiggly things, they look like roundworms. I am just not aware of any available medicine for this. I will try to get hold of some lavamisole or someone suggested drontal dewormer. The problem is catching them as all 80 are in a 800l circular display tank. I however don't understand how the worms were introduced? Is it possible that the worm cycts could survive in the frozen blood worm that I feed? If so would it help to cook or microwave the bloodworm before feeding the fish or will this destroy all the nutrients?

 

Ask Marco you should be able to find him on one of the discus post he has a great knowledge of frozen food. The best is to ask him if it's possible and which is the best to make frozen food to use to avoid the possibility of diseases.

Yes, roundworm eggs survive freezing, heat however kills them. 40degrees usually kills them, to be safe, at 50 degree they will die
Lavamisole is good but drontal covers more types of round worm. I am not sure if this makes a difference to fish as I am not sure how many species of round worm commonly
affect fish
In mammals, specially puppies or nursing dams, drontal is best.
