    Hi all

I saw on google how to make freshwater from seawater by using a diy desalination plant. Question is...is that freshwater suitable for fishes and plants?

It probably is, but the water parameters might be different.
    I found this through google:
"Majority of desalination plants are designed to produce finished water of total (calcium and magnesium) hardness of 80 to 120 mg/L as CaCO3. Since desalinated water usually contains less than 2 mg/L of magnesium, over 90% of the total hardness of drinking water conditioned with lime is calcium hardness."

    Although these aren't DIY plants

Could you link to the DIY solution you found? It should give an idea about what processes the water goes through, and therefore what the end result might be (chemistry wise).

All the DIY solutions I've seen work differently than the commercial ones. They use simple evaporation/condensation, but I think it will take ages to make lots of water. The water will be completely pure, so you will need to add minerals.

The commercial solutions use different methods such as reverse osmosis:

    Not a bad price though: $17,890.00 :)

I saw it on youtube where the seawater is heated and the condensation is captured in a separate container. Thought if I could heat up 100L and use it for water changes
