Hmmm.... Well, I thought I'd start a new thread for this, rather than hijack the other cannister threads, but heres my question....

I'm looking into Eheim cannisters as some of you will know, and am after some help with choosing....

    But first some info....

I have a 315L Aquabest corner tank which i am currently running an Eheim ecco 2231 cannister on. Great filter, but the manual suggests that it will only handle 200L tank....

Now, I've looked into other options, and want to stick to Eheim, but heres my choices....

I can buy a Classic 1500 for R1200 (upto 350L) and use as a secondary cannister, or a,
    Pro 1 for R1500 i think? (upto 150L), or a,
    Pro 2 Thermo for R4500 (upto 600L), or a,
Pro wet/Dry cannister with 3L of Ehfisubstrat for R4500 (upto 600L)

I was really looking to only spend upto R2000 max really, but is it worth the extra to go for the likes of the Pro 2 or the Pro wet/dry??

I love the idea of the wetdry, but its just sooo expensive!

If you guys can assist me in making a decision, I'd appreciate it!

    Cheers
    Big G!

    Hey Big G

I recently procured an Eheim Classic 2217 which has a 1000L/h flow rate... This is more than enough for my 300L tank as it cycles the water just over 3 times an hour.

You will expect to pay in the region of R1300 for this filter.

I had to drill out the holes in the spray bar to slow down the water. Later i will fit a bigger bore PVC pipe as a spray bar to slow the velocity even more.

    Just my 2c

    Cheers

    I have a correction...

The classic is the 2215, and the wet dry was the 2229, possibly the 2329 (thermo version)

Thanks for that Lift! Yer, the 2217 was one I was looking at, but it had become sold out at my stockists, although he told me yesterday that he had another arrive, so that may be my choice?? I was just wondering whether the likes of the wetdry or pro 2 thermo would be worth the extra wonga?

Anyone any experience with these wet dry filters? the 2229 specifically??

    Cheers

Well, finances took a huge hit over the weekend, so I had to go for a cheaper option in the meantime, so I settled on a Pro 1 - 2222. Got a really good deal, including all the EhfiMech and EhfiSubstrat Pro! Good for 500L per hour, and upto a 150L tank, so combined with the Ecco at 500L also, and upto 200L, that gives me what I need for now!

Still gonna look into a larger Pro 2 or wet/dry for the future, but that'll be on a second tank if I get permission from the wife? I doubt that'll happen any time soon?

    Cheers
