    Hi all.
Hope everyone is doing well and getting back into the swing of things.

Last year August sometime, I came across a secondhand 120 X50 X50cm old marine tank. I didn't have a cabinet for it and a week ago I got one at a Secondhand store.

My dad and I are bracing the stand with extra support and he says it should take the weight of the tank (He used to work in a furniture company). With the bracing nearly done, I cleaned out the tank and need to find a place in the house to put it.

The tank has been drilled and has an overflow to a sump. I still need to get the sump set up.

Here's my problem: I don't know what to fill it with. I saw some Neon Blue rainbows today that I really liked. I originally wanted to put some odd balls in it like spiny eels and a BGKF but after seeing the rainbows that idea seems like it won't happen.
Would the tank work with a few angels and some rainbows?I would like to go planted with a Valis wall at the back but I don't want the sump to hinder the plants.
We recently purchased a rubber duck so I can't afford a canister filter or something like that.

So after a long read, please leave some comments or ideas as what to do with the tank.

    Regards
    Firefly

I think the tank will work great for a few Angels and rainbows and if you plant it correctly it will be an awesome tank.

Nobody has really done angels and rainbows in a planted tank yet...could be something different..a new trend perhaps ...what rainbows are you thinking? If only they bred dwarf angelfish ...aaaah ..a dream come true .. You could have some tetras and agngels too? Silver tips or blue emperor...also cochus blue tetra, plant it well... Hornwort for fill..some driftwood ..awesomeness!!!!!!

Too small for a fully grown Black Ghost in the long term. I like the idea with the Angels.

With all the rainbow fish available - why not. I personally have 5 species in my mixed 1400 liter aquarium and love them!

Cool, to me it looks so similar to a boesemani rainbow ... Might be closely related species

No - Neon rainbows are actually much smaller than boesemani’s and they are called neon for a reason, under good lighting they are really neon BLUE in colour . AND much easier to sex as well, males fines are reddish and females fines are yellowish.

    Hey! :)

They actually look quite similar in pictures ... Firefly .. Are you sure that you saw a blue neon or a juvi boesemani... They look similar to me ... I would be confused ..

Bit off topic but ...is it possible to breed dwarf angelfish? Inbreed 2 stunted angels and keep breeding it over and over? Or is it a bad idea?

Sure they were Blue neons because we the shop also kept bosmani and they are differently colored. They are the same Genus but different species.
I think the idea is clever about the angels but that would be cruel. Just my opinion.

I think I should speak to @Gert about it. Normally the stunted angels are culled ...maybe they could serve a purpose in a nano aquarium?

Very nice idea...when are you planning the setup?

Stunted Angels should be culled, we don't need more bad genes fouling up an already 'dirty' gene pool. We don't want to start another deformed fish trend either.

Yes, I really understand. . . I just questioned myself if they would even be sexually mature or even fertile. . .

    Just an idea. .

Well, everyone that know me, know me as a bit of a purist! I must have some German blood somewhere in the gene pool...
I do believe that stunted/mis-formed fry should be culled or become fish food.
There are already too many of my pet-hates in the trade: eg. "balloon" ; "parrot"; ink-injected fish etc.. - too many man-made fish without a propper Scientific name, etc.
I do have respect for some nice line-bred fish though.
I also think the angel and rainbows could look nice.

A big no no, these fish are horrible community fish.
Mine took my tetra tank to parts in a few moments and would have killed most of my blue emperor tetras
if I did not move them.

Someone else had his barbs killed by these guys. They are beautiful but will not keep them in anything but a dedicated
cochu blue tank. They completely dominate the entire tank.
    Real Bonzai piranhas.

I moved the tank into the house earlier. Here are some pics.

Don't know whether I should move it into the corner or use the tank in the corner as a
    quarantine tank. Any ideas?

    Still to do:

    • Better clean.

    • Move the pipes a bit to make spray bar.
    • Cut off little glass piece that held to undergravel in place.
    • Add sump compartment.
Add sump and then I should be ready to start. Will probably take a week or so because of school:sick:.

@azurekoi, how many bosmani and neon blues do you think would fit into the tank. The sump being around a 3fter. Would 6 of each suffice? I was thinking more along the lines of 6 neon blues and 2 angels.

More than enough space - You could even look @ adding another group of 6 from another species - google rainbowfish forum and just stare at some of the galleries... Either mix with some bristlenoses or some australasian gobies if you can find them...

Try to get a few more females than males - I know the males are more colourfull, but this way,the males that you have will have even better colour...
