Is anyone attempting to go away over the Festive Period?

We will just be at home.
The Mrs and I were contemplating a few days at a nice spa type hotel for a few days - without kids
But the prices are insane, so it's not likely to happen

Take her to a Spar instead. There you can get her five roses.

I am planning on a 2 day canoe trail with my family on 27/28 December. First time for my boys, its going to blow their minds. Contemplating watching Jaws with them for their first time the night before.

We’re spending Christmas with my family up north. Usually we’d fly up but decided it’s safer to drive.

Might visit family in Hawston but also depending on Cyril.

Safer to drive and spend time with family if you want to get out. Just miss the beach so will definitely be on the beach

Well from what I last know, South Africa is trying to get their travel restrictions to other countries removed as they are banned from direct flights to a good few countries including the UK, UAE and the US. Inter provincial travel has not had any restrictions added on and most of the country is operating as normal, in my opinion it's a little reckless but I do understand that the economy has taken a huge amount of strain and needs to operate as much as possible.

To be honest though the Omicron strain has been down played by media outlets, some even quoting "professionals" as saying it's a sign that this is the end of covid

Happy for you guys you're still allowed to travel and to be with family and friends !!!

Looks as if Omicron (or better : the fear for it) has locked big parts of the rest of the world. Travelling to other counties has become more complicated.

Think I'll stay at home or maybe will celibrate new year in Germany (have to report I'll be travelling in then).

Have a nice time guys and don't eat and drink too much hahaha.

The current situation seems to be throwing up a lot of uncertainty re travel.
Hopefully next year will be better

What's the restrictions like by you?

It's really heartwarming to hear the stories of spending these times with loved ones after the last year we've just had

Yeah this is the crazy thing. Fact is we're still able to travel with no restrictions to almost anywhere, sadly South Africa is not included in that list, UK could change overnight and Australia aren't open yet so literally the 3 places I'd want to travel to are not possible. The positive side of this though is that I won't have to worry about my tanks and honestly the money saved

Main issue at this moment is restaurants / cafes closing at 17.00 hrs.
One have to proof vaccination with an app in a lot of places.

Several countries are in some kind of lockdown. Austria is for instance. Normally a lot of Europeans celebrate Xmass in Austria (skiing). Point is the measures change on a daily basis and the countries of the EU operate divided in this crisis (uhhh that was one of the thing the EU was created for hahaha)

Austria and Germany has decided that anyone over 14 yrs has to get vaccinated.
    A fine of € 3600,-- if you aren't.
But doubts begin to rise vaccination is the solution (the first two didn't have that effect). "Booster" seems to be the miracle sollution now. I think it has an incredible impact on personal freedom (I had Covid and am 2 times vaccinated btw) but okay we'll see.

I think it is strange the SA medic who "discovered" Omikron tells it is quite a mild infection, but the world is closed by it.

As said happy for you guys. Hoping this missery will soon be over for everyone

    Stay healthy !

Sounds like my type of holiday! Just trying my side to finish early enough on the 25th to have a small lunch with some family otherwise its full steam ahead until the New Year. As well as making sure I take some leave in Feb before my leave from this year cancels itself out because I recently found out that was a thing.

Yeah apparently it was unconstitutional. After you guys caused panic to make us close to South Africans and mess all our plans, then silently open :)

    May not like it.
But I do get why the strict travel measures were put in place.

When Delta appeared, our government dithered and allowed it to enter
They were absolutely slated for not taking action sooner.
Then this Om appeared, they were always going to make a knew jerk reaction. But their attitude now is it is being community spread now, so no point in restricting travel.

Though I must say, cases have escalated significantly world wide.
Perhaps now isn't an ideal time to travel ? :(
