    Hey guys

I got a few fish last week, including some beautiful glowlight tetras.
I noticed a few were very fat.
They seemed to be doing alright.

But now this morning I found this fella on my pump.
I can't find the other 5 Glowlights, but all the other fish are swimming happily.

Does the Glowlight in the picture look diseased? Want to know if there is anything I can do for the other Glowlights (there are 2 more that are almost as fat as the one pictured).

I don't have water paramters atm, but I'll go to my pool shop later this morning and have them run a test for me.
After much deliberation and reading on TASA I added some rainwater collected in a JoJo tank from a tin roof to the tank last night during the storm. 40% WC. Temperature went from 24.5 to 22.0.

maybe open it up and see what is making it soo fat... it could be constipated. then u can see if it is disease or not.

Could be constipated or maybe an internal parasite. Doesn't look like any external sickness. Could have been a pH shock maybe.

I found two more biltong Glowlights at the bottom of my tank. The water level is at maximum, but the only guys that jumped ship were two Glowlights?
One thin one and one more fat one.

Opened up the fat one. Don't know much about autopsies. Looked like a good cc of eggs.

and yes ... that is the other option of a "fat" fish.

mmm yes, it is difficult to say with the evidence, but there is no external evidence of disease, and since there are fish that have jumped i would think that there is something with the water that they did not like, possibly the sudden drop in temp and water parameters that gave them a shock.

Yikes! Hope there isn't blood on my hands.
Thought I was helping the (I'm not sure) "pregnant" fish to drop her eggs.
Odd that it was only the Glowlights, though. There are neons and a few other other types of Tetras in the tank all diong well.
YoYo Loaches (2), Botia Striata (1), Albino Ancistrus are a few bigger fish I saw doing well this morning.

Only the Glowlight Tetras jumped. Found another by the drain hole. Also full of eggs.
Is it too morbid to post pics of dissected fish? I'm certain, though, that the round ball-shaped objects are eggs.

Maybe do a warning post beforehand. If they are small little clear or red balls that are squishy, then it's probably eggs. Almost like caviar.

i can testify that i have also such tetras in my tank 4 of them like that they are incredibly plump , mine feed and swim perfectly normally i only lost a small thin one in the begining because of water parameters. and from research it says the female are always the plump gravid ones while males are thin and stream lined. i dunno if anyone knows better but my plump ones have never had problems

    @KennyG

Do your females lay their eggs? Have you had any fry?
Bleak about mine, they had grown on me and looked really nice in my tank.

Just find it so odd that only the Glowlights died. One stuck on the pump, the others all jumped out :(

Water test results were as follows: Tank water pH 7.4 (this was this morning @ 10). TDS 200. Pool shop didn't have any NH3/4 readings, and oddly enough their tests didn't pick up any Fe in my tank water even though I dose Iron Tablets, Seachem Flourish(3ml), Excel(10ml) and Saltpetre(1.2g) solution daily, so I'm taking the measurements with a grain of salt.
Rain water pH 6.5, TDS 20 (the lady's TDS meter showed 0, but she noted it down as 20 on the print out).

Still worried and puzzled about why only the Glowlights reacted so adversely :(

Rest of the fish look very happy. More active than usual, many of them swimming in the medium to medium-high level of the tank, where before they would stay in the medium to bottom range of the tank.

Going to keep feedings at a minimum. No more bloodworm and brine shrimp cubes.

i havent stared at mine long enough to look for spawning , but i have noticed the skinnier one who i believe to be the male harass the females (plump ones) for a little time every now and then and from what ive read apparently thats spawning , im not sure if theyve actually laid eggs cause my corys couldve eaten them or the guppies. but ive also had them jump out , it seems to only happen at night so i keep the cover on at night and leave it off in the day , seems like frights cause it but the tetra fish is also acrobatic so its nothing big for them to leap out the tank. and as a say i lost one early in the begining in my 60L tank think it couldnt adjust or anything but when i moved them all to my 30L they were all fine , so i think water parameters are a small role but tetras are fairly hardy
@rudig hope it helps a little
