I just picked up a bag of daphnia from my lfs been looking for them for a while as they seem to be the easiet live food to keep for the fishes and they reproduce easily so I want to keep my stock growing for a while. From what I read they can reproduce after 4 days and can reproduce up to 28 times in their lifetime. I have read that u can feed them green water, yeast solution, dung(def not going to try), and pellets the guys article I read uses salmon or dog food pellets they do this for the bacteria.

So I no all the maintenance etc and their nutrional value they're just going to b a treat not a staple the fish had a feeding frenzy wen they were fed:) I need to no from anyone who kept them what u fed them. From the use of pellets can I assume that I can use some bottom feeder pellets, possibly algae tablets, or any other things u feed them. Thanks for the help

You can feed them green water, cooled down lettuce tea/soup, yeast, dogg pellets etc.

I keep mine in a outside tank (bottom was cracked - re glued, don't trust it).
Fill with rain water/tap water, hand full of chicken manure pellets, and old tank water.
Get starter culture, once water is nice and green. Feed with detritus and yeast once in a while. The larger the tank, the better. Not much direct sunlight, to keep it cool.
Net out daphnia as needed and keep water level up.
    Easy as pie!
    Gert.

I'm going to keep a small culture going in my window sill :) I only have a 70 litre tank so not much is needed I can get hold of daphnia cultures easily here in pta. I'm going to have about 10l going at a time with some aeration not an airstone, I will be giving mine yeast and the following I have a juicer so I don't have to blend and I can get the pure juice out of veggies so I can use carrots spinach sweet potato and lettuce thanks gert for the info. I just hav another question I want to feed my fish as much live food as I can but I no they need a varied diet they are getting high quality sera flakes wat is the most times I can feed them daphnia they love them :)

I have an outside porta pool setup just for my daphnids, I feed only green water and have had my whole culture die off in the past when trying to feed just a few dog pellets. def the easiest and best baby food available,

Daphnia, has a mild laxative effect on most fish, and must be used in moderation with some fish. This can be used with good effect on fish that show constipation etc. as for betta's. - Roughage.
Other fish live mostly from it, and can have daphnia constantly in their tank. (like small predators)
Daphnia can survive in freshwater tanks for at least 24 hours.

    Good luck.
