    Good Afternoon
I have experiencing a situation in the last 1.5 months where some of my fish getting sick and died.
Some of them losing the whole tail fin and then die.
Sunday I have seen another one losing the dorsal fin as per attached Pic.
I have changed 20% of the water on a weekly base,

    1. Firstly have added medicine (malachite Green Formalin), treating for Finrot in a 80L tank.
    2. Allow two days and then added Aquadene No 3.
    So far no happy results.
Please advice what you can Identify from my poor Quality Picture.
    Thanks
    Frans

    Hi 2202,

I think this sounds like columnaris infection which is highly infective, spreads quickly and needs aggressive medical treatment and those meds that you have tried will not work.

I want to refer you to a former thread which sounded very similar to your problem and in which I also gave advice about what to do. Have a look at this and tell us if you think this is the same disease.

    Kind regards,

    Thanks for your response.
I have read the other thread and it does not sounds similar.
The only section that are infected are the fins.
The infected fish look somehow better this evening,
the "white Fungus" are less visible, you see more of the wound now.
The fish are very active and this do not allow me to have a better view.

What must I do to disinfect all my equipment that I might use in the tank.
    Thanks
    Frans

    Hallo Frans,

It is a good sign that the fish are active so that is a step in the right direction.

I think that you must continue with the medication and report back if there is an improvement.

I do not know Aquadene No3. What does it say on the label of the bottle with regard to what the active ingredient is? If you send me this information I can tell you if it is going to work. Many of the medications are supposed to be good, but because of the over use of medications in Singapore where most aquarium fishes come from, some of these diseases are completely resistant to standard medications and require much stronger medication.

Can you also tell me how long this tank has been set up and if you added new fish to this tank recently.

    Hope matters improve.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

We where too happy, too soon, lost that one, but now have to see that we can save the other ones.

    1. This tank was set up in beginning of August and it was only Danios, and the scissortails in this tank.
    2. The label says Aquadine 3, "General Aid Special "
      • Newly developed German fish Medicine used as a cure and as a general prevention for all common fish diseases like
      • ich, sore spots, fin rot, torn fins, mouth & body fungus.
      • it is widely used in fish farm, hatcheries, and by exporters and Importers to cut down mortality rates in transit

There are no info of ingredients.

This medication sounds like one of these general cure alls, something along the lines of: Take this to cure coughs, colds, it will aid your digestion and also cure haemaroides if you have a sit a lot......

NO, this medication is not going to cure the disease symptoms you describe. Go and buy something like Sera, Tetra or Waterlife medication against fin-rot and fungus infections and use these according to the instructions.

If your tank has been set up early in August then your filtration should be functional so I think that will not be the cause of the problems.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
