If anyone has any advice as to why my Danio is not eating please help.
I cannot come up with any reasons as to why he would suddenly just stop eating and currently it doesn't look like he's going to make it:frown:. The female Danio and baby Danio are in the same tank but they are as healthy as can be.

I don't see any sign of other diseases by the way. I'll send a picture tonight to give an idea what I'm dealing with.

I will fill the questionnaire in as soon as I can and will send it through tonight. I've had a look at it and some of the questions are quite advanced so I'll have to have a look first and make sure I fill everything in correctly
    So worried!

Ocean Nutrition flakes. Quite expensive and much better quality than the general tropical fish flakes you get.

Hi @Bubbukitty. Firstly I think your temperature is too warm. They like to be kept at 18-25 degrees. Secondly, you should look to increase their numbers when all is settled to at least 6 (schooling fish). Thirdly, what "general tonic" are you using as these are not normally for water preperation. Rather look at Seachem prime or Nutrafin Aquasafe.

    Thanks MarcHawke.
I thought they were quite hardy fish according to what I researched, but I'll take the temp and suggested tonic into consideration.
As I'm still quite a beginner I appreciate any feedback that comes my way :smile1:

@Bubbukitty, hi there, it is really hard to say why your fish might not be eating, it is possibel that he is jsut being stressed, as @MarcHawke has mentioned, this might be down to 2 reasons, 1. the water is a bit too warm for this type of fish, and 2. danio's need to be kept in schools, 6 is the recommended minimum, i would seggest 8 or even 10.

i see that you have improved your water changing routine to 10% once a week, this is great! what i would suggest you do in the meantime, is to do 10% daily water changes for 1 week (7-10 days) this will give your fish pristine water quality, will cause his immune system to strengthen and you stand a good chance of saving your fish. for me, this method works 9 times out of 10.

once your fish has recovered (after the week's water changing) you can revert back to your 10% once a week water changes.

one of the reasons that water changes are even more important is the fact that you have some catfish, and they tend to be big waste producers, even when they are very small, so that is just a little bit of information for you ;)

cheers and keep us updated :)

they actually are very hardy fish, but i think any fish, if exposed to the wrong water parameters for too long, will eventually get sick and die. the most imortant thing to give a fish is good quality water, an environment that makes it feel safe, and quality food. when you can provide these for a fish, their immune systems are strong, and they can then generally fight off most diseases on their own..

I do appreciate all the feedback:rock:
Just one thing that baffles me, which is that I have 2 other danios in the same tank which are as healthy as ever. The females is even pregnant

I have had some Danios... what I've learned from my experience is that they have short life spans. My males seemed to have shorter lifespans than the females. They stopped eating, and sort of hovered around - instead of zooming about. In all 3 cases, this simply meant that they were kaput. I don't know if this is relevant in your instance.

Under a year - the males that is. I have lone female (I decided to move on to other fish which is why she is alone) that is around one and a half now, and still going strong.

well, here there are 2 things which could contribute. 1 that particular danio has the lightly weaker immune system, or there being only 3 of them, there might be a little bit of bullying happening, which might not be apparent with how lively they are, but it could cause him to be significantly weaker.. if he is the one getting the most abuse by one or both of the other's.

no disrespect, @tracyp, but my brother in law is a bit of a zebra danio fan, and he's got some of them for over 2 years and they looking very healthy and active.. and the life expectancy for zebra danios is generally around 5 years.

biggest problem with this fish is that they are kept in too small groups.

I am sad to announce that my Danio did not make it and passed away today.
But it seems he had an internal disease, mabe velvet which comes closest to what he looked like in the last couple days.
I wanted to post some pictures on Friday night but my internet was not working until today.

But thanks guys for all the advice and I'm sure it will come in handy in future.
