Which of the three tanks do you like the most??

  1. 1. The 250l discus tank

  2. 2. The 100l high tech tank

  3. 3. The 16l low tech shrimp tank

If you have big fish that are kicking up the substrate - I would also stay clear of fine play sand - with the larger pool filter sand or culterra washed sand you have less chance of it being sucked into your filtration.

Probably a nutrient deficiency. Adding Scape complete or some liquid fertilizer would definitely help.

Quickly did a mod on the low tech today. Made a light hanging arm to hang my T5s above the tank so I can put a glass cover to avoid excessive evaporation

    I'm quite happy with it

Looks good .. if you can go 6mm on the glass and maybe look at hanging it inside the tank. On lucky 13 a 4ft this worked well for me in the past.

That way all the water stays in the tank and no tears on the glass. I also find less of a build-up compared to tanks that I just place the covers on top of the tank.

So an update is in order....

While I was away the low tech tank popped it seals and drained itself everywhere!! Luckily my gran was able to sort it out and it's currently sitting outside with straps holding it together but it's gonna have to be torn down. Managed to save all the plants and basically all shrimps but lost my two corys!

The high tech is a lil overgrown but basically still ticking over nicely!!

Discus were in perfect health, obviously hadn't grown much as feedings and temp had been reduced when I was away, but I'm back on track and have bumped the temp up again and am feeding and changing water as before!

Quick photo of the discus I snapped last night

Stunning ... is the back pipe a bubble bar to keep all the muck suspended and easier to filter out?

It's actually the return from the sump and yes it's to keep the bottom from collecting detritus. There's a dead spot in each front corner which collects some bits but I just siphon it when I do a water change
