Yer this is the project I refered to a few weeks back in another thread (can't remember which thread now??)

Whilst I understand the need to produce power, and utilising natures power is a good way of doing this, its got to have provision placed in to protect/save/provide for the rare species at least if not the more common ones!!

But at the end of the day, somewhat unfortunately, economics wins, especially when someone stands to make a lot of money from it!!

    Just my thoughts!
    Cheers
    G!

it would be great if they can only make a more fish friendly dam.

The Problem is the knock on effect further down stream!! These kinds of dams effectively dry up downstream, and flood upstream areas!! This in turn also changes the landscape so the small stagnant ponds become huge lakes, and the flowing rivers slow down!! The effects are quite simply huge, and unfortunately detrimental!!

    Cheers
    G!

This is sad. Not only are we loosing that ecosystem... but by the displacement of so many tribes, we are in actual fact loosing some culture here as well!

why don't they just use solar power?

think this is more a ego thing for the man in charge , building the 3rd largest dam, his name will be in history .
but as a dumb as . in this day and age you think people would have more innovative solutions to energy problems ?

building a dam is so 20 years ago lol

    :(

Sadly solar power would have just as large a negative effect, major deforestation would have to take place in the region to open a large enough surface area to create a sufficiently sized power station... :(

I'm don't like all the damn dam building taking place across the glode... I hope good ol' Dr Zeb Hogan and his megafishes project run a show in nat geo about the impact the project may/will have... (there may have been one but I don't have dstv so I don't know). Its really depressing for fish lovers to see what an impact these dams have on an ecosystem. Sadly though, there is little that can stop the money train and the project will most likely go ahead, and as much as I hate to say it the world needs electricity, none of us would have a fish tank and a computer to enjoy the world of TASA of it weren't for projects such as these...

I'm a tree hugger, and proud of it. But at the end of the day people (yes all of us) r@ped the planet on a large scale and now were are stuck with the rotten apples...

I'm glad the fishes there are able to swim another day enough if it may be short lived. :smile1:

PS... and another sad part is that the dam won't be a success, anything running at 10% efficiency for 3-4 months of the year is a waste and should not be invested in in my opinion.
