Just trimmed 4ft clear ... fair warning I have probably every type of algae you can think of in the tank ..

I just IM'ed the above to some members who have been wanting cuttings .. obviously the BBA, Staghorn, BSA or whatever else I might have discovered in my tank ( probably s) is not bothering me at this point, but for other this might introduce a stress.

Do I just bin this or pass it on with the warning .. I am leaning towards binning it ... sorry guys.

I'm currently battling cladophora in a 3ft propagation tank, I absolutely hate that stuff. To me they are far worse than bba. That being said, some people are limited in plant selection at the lps and there are always preventative measures, such ass quarantining or bleach/peroxide dipping. If you've let the person know about the algae before hand then no harm no foul.

Been chatting to @Ryno he recommends "15% bleach to water solution for 3-5min" for the proud new owner - having never tried this I will give it a bash also.

So share and warn it seems to be for the night owl's of TASA.

ok, so here's one for the books then..........

I had clado in my 2ft. I don't have it anymore!

I'm not entirely sure why it went away, but I can't say I miss it! What did I do - not much! I have khuli loaches in there, and they've reacted badly to both Excel and peroxide (for bba not clado) so I don't use either as spot clearance. What I DID do is clean it out physically time after time. I also applied my normal relaxed approach to algae breakouts - keep fert dosing stable, keep calm and wait for the balance to reassert - it's probably just dumb luck, but it's deffo gone.

Now lets see if the same applies to bba!

I meant to say 2ft tank, anyway when you say nuke everything with bleach do you mean remove livestock and filters and kill all the plants, bacteria and algae or would the plants survive such a treatment?
would the same amount be used as above i.e 15% bleach to water, and for how long?

I'm currently using the peroxide spot treatment with filters off for 1 hour and the peroxide really does work beautifully, only problem is the clado is everywhere and only a small hair like piece has to survive to ensure future offspring. H2O2 is also very cheap.

Mind sending some of that dumb luck my way .

sorry bit of hijacking going on. take out livestock. empty tank use the 15% bleach on substrate. while it is soaking dip the plants in the solution for 5min. need to rinse everything very very very well afterwords. plants will take a knock but should bounce back

Yes sorry for the derailing f-fish, just one more question to Ryno.
Do the filters also have to be bleached and then started over with seeded media/bottled bacteria?
