Having been told that frozen bloodworms comes back to life once they're put into your aquarium, I'm now skeptical of advice from my local pet shop owner..... He now advises me to start a Daphnia culture simply by putting cow manure into a pond and the Daphnia will appear (naturally) within about 2 weeks......Maybe he's right, maybe not, but I remain skeptical??

i see.. i dont like them cos i got a planted tank without fish and its full of them.. not so apealing..

ok.. i rem now i read on the other forum they were cultivating daphnia in a tank.. he would put a 2 liter coke bottle outside in the sun with water from his fish tanks till the water went green and dumped that water in the Daphnia tank to feed them:)

Yea... I think that would work to feed them once you've got them.... I actually mean culturing them... out of thin air... Starting a culture of Daphnia. I was told they would just "be there" if you put cow manure into a pond. (heaven knows where they would come from....he he!

    Frozen bloodworm ............No.
    Daphnia out of thin air............no.
You need the interference of some sort of water bird to actually deposit the "Winter eggs" into your pond.
Or you can get a "starter culture" from a Dam or pond near you.The Manure is just to accellerate the growth of the daphnia colony.

    Daphnia

I know it sounds gross, but I collect My daphnia two different ways. Either from the standing damns at the water works. Or if You go too slow moving water along river banks where there is long grass hanging into the water You some times find daphnia.
