    Hi All

Is it fine to feed corydoras cucumber and gem squash?

Must be honest (and Im no expert), mine eat anything that hits the floor... floating food, sinking pellets, flakes, blood worm even (not regularly) they are big, healthy and breeding. I've never fed them veggies so im not too sure. A pack of sinking pellets lasts me months if you buy a decent one.

Never seen mine eat veggies either, although it is available, clown loaches yes, corries never. If they eat it it should be OK.

Well, did allot of research about it and apparently it is. I usually fed them a cheap make of food, worked well and was really really cheap. I break up the Hikari Wafers into 4 peaces and feed them 1 every 2-3 days at this moment. Only got this on Last week Friday so trying it out for the first time now.

Corys eat leftovers or whatever falls to the bottom, they need a balanced diet (they are omnivorous) and do not survive on algae wafers alone so please mix it up.

...Bloodworms, shrimp, pellets, wafers but can't say I've noticed them actively eating cucumber, as @Chris_H says mix it up.

@DoubleDutch advice? I'm pretty sure corys are omnivorous but therefore need more than vegetable matter.. I feed mine sinking pellets for corys by Tetra, I don't know if only algae wafers or fresh veggies are ok on their own long term..

mine will gobble absolutely anything, their staple is sinking pellets but anything that lands on the bottom disappears in seconds including bloodworm and brine shrimp. All in all I feed approximately 7 different foods on rotation including the frozen live stuff and the occasional insect or two..

They are omnivores, but 99% at the carnivorious side. They'll eat algaewafers but those hardly have any nutritional value for Corys. They nibble some of vegs but won't really eat. They really need their own quality protein food. Variation of pellets, brineshrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, aso is rhe way to go.

I tried algae wafers just to see if they would like them, but my Rams chased them away and feasted like they never saw algae before. Weirdest thing ever.

Best is to feed your corys at night with lights out. If you watch them when they eat it looks like they chew their food. So best is to feed at night so they can eat at their own time. Best i found is tetra prima. Even better is frozen brine shrimp.

I condition my spawning adult Sterbai , and also grow my babies out on crushed Pond or Rams horn snails. in fact , I cant grow snails fast enough , so ultimately I end up feeding them a really good carnivore wafer If I have to. I have seen them nibble on algae wafers , but I cant see how its good for them. After all , one cannot expect a Lion to survive on salad : - ).
