Breeding - ah not .. I just added water, they do the rest. I like convicts cause unlike humans they self control the population ...

Yeap a pair can totally control a 4ft tank, all the community fish will be stuck in one corner while the parents dart up and down patrolling and destroying any plant that dare move in and attack the fry.

They do not do well with sudden temp drops - anything below 13 degrees will probably result in a floater, 15 -> 18 makes then slower than normal but still healthy. Food - anything, no really, mine get greens, flakes and pellets. They have a bad wrap at most LFS's because they will easily have a new batch of fry every 10 days if you remove the fry ... and for some reason selling fish with fry or having fry in a tank causes issues in some LFS's.

Mine are actually OK with some guppies but you do see less guppy fry around. Biggest thing I find they do not like to much light - dark and dingy.

cons are the definition of small man syndrome
all the attitude of big cichlids just not the size.
they can be real nasty when breeding but besides that they are great lil fish full of personality and attitude.

There are VERY beautiful and healthy convicts, about 6 cm in size available in potchefstroom.
Are in 6 in the tank at LFS and no issues with territory

Thanks for all the info guys. Busy contemplating my next move... Always wanted to have a large cichlid tank, so trying to make up my mind on what to get. The Tang guys on the forum are playing with my emotions though... Just don't have any more space where I can enjoy it for a 400+ lt tank...

Man knew I was forgetting something.

    Blonds love to hide

Looking at the I would not rate them as A grade any more - probably a bit of inbreeding at this point. Stripes are smearing.

Will need to try again at another stage to get better shots of the blonds.

So no @francoisve ... I will not be dropping them off for you since I do not think the stock is what you want to start out with. Might be wrong ???
