    Hello

I have ONE Convict in my tank, she has been hiding in a cave (boat) for the last week, and is not eating, I thought she may be pregnant, but today I managed to get a good look at her and doesn't look like she has eggs in her mouth, is this type of fish a mouth brooder?

I have had 4 lots of babies so far from my yellow cichlids and they are mouth brooders so I know what to look for.

So i'm wondering if she has perhaps laid eggs and got pregnant by another type of fish

    any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi

Not a mouth brooder but egg layer...I've currently got the 2nd batch of eggs in the tank and the 1st batch is still in the same tank with mum + dad.

If you want some babies, let me know...you can have some

    Cheers
    Dale

They are not mouthbrooders. They lay eggs. And yes, they breed like rabbits. Added a male to a 3ft that already have a female in, and had eggs in 3 days.

@Lushen: I may be thinking of getting rid of my pair. I have not decided yet. So I may be able to help you out if you don't come right. Just not so sure about the shipping though. Never done it before.

ya thats for sure , my fry are big enough to breed now .so wen you get fry eventually .feed them brine shrimp it keeps your survival rate high and then crushed tetrapro falkes [R13.50] for a packet and you should grind it yourself as wen you buy the tetra baby it is ground flakes at double the price!

Definitely not in the Black List.

It's one of the most common, and easiest cichlids to keep, and you'll find them absolutely anywhere.

yeah, i know what you are saying, i also went through that list and it wasn't there, but it is possible that the list we are looking at is outdated...i'm sure Henk will be providing a new list soon...

the list that Henk has is the list for the last year we are still waiting for the new list to be approved. This might be a dumb question but what is the scientific Name for a convict maybe it is on the list under that name?

its all the species that are illegal to trade, Donovan...like how all freshwater shrimp/crustaceans are illegal, they are on the blacklist...
