    Good Day Everyone,

I recently got 2x Juvenile Convict Cichlids. One looks like a female, other one not 100% sure but looks like a male, got them from a LFS at a great price and took them instead of 2 Oscars due to my tank size.

The tank is a 250L 4ft. with PFS for a substrate and using a dophin c1600 canister as a filter. and a via aqua 1200 Lph powerhead.

The 2 convicts is about 2 - 3.5cm max in size and would like to if possible to add a few tank mates to the tank for these guys if possible. Would like to see everyone's opinion about this good/bad.

    Thanks
    Regards
    JJ

Bristlenose plecos! Unlikely to be killed. Btw, why only 2?

The store only had two on Monday afternoon,

I will take more today if they have as well, big maybe. Wouldn't mind though.

I have a few feather fin cats in there at the moment with them, that I might sell or keep but not 100% sure yet.

Like the idea of adding Bristle nose Plecos.

If they are a true pair, I wouldn't add more.
When they start to breed, it will cause chaos.

In fact I wouldn't add any more Cichlids.

    Maybe some Barbs.
    Or Rainbowfish

    Thanks @Readfish,

I know the LFS sells both Barbs as well as Rainbow fish. Will have a look at them as well. Have never had any of these 2 types yet, could be interesting to see this develop.
Barbs like in Tiger barbs/Cherry Barbs?

Yup, in groups of 8 or more. As these will have aggression issues too.
But any robust, fast moving dither fish

Stupid Question: I take it, it would not be a good choice to add 2x jewel cichlids or 1x Firemouth Cichlid in the mix?

    I wouldn't

If Jewels breed, they can also turn nasty.
    They have a reputation.

And Firemouths like to be in small groups

Hi @Ortaega , I might be wrong, but with my experience, having more than 2 breeding pairs will cause a lot of friction...

What I mean is what If I have 1 male, but many females? will that work, how do people with about 8/9 convicts in one tank manage this? I do have one male and one female. So far they have no interest in each other so far, might be due to the female being bigger than the male. Don't know convicts yet,but will stay with 2 only to be safe if really a must.

Hi Ortaega, just checking, the male is usually bigger than the female and she is the one with the color - pink on the belly.
Don't you worry, they will breed in a dry pothole !
