Convict breeding sizes

Hi

I bought 4 convicts a few weeks back. They are all different sizes. The largest being +- 6cm and the smallest +- 2cm. I have them together in a standard 3ft tank. I have added caves and ceramic pots to the tank.

What I would like to know is at what sizes do they start to pair off and breed. From what I can see the largest one is a male, I cant tell with the others. Im hoping there is a female amonst them.:bigsmile:

the females would have a bit of orange on their bellies and are usually much smaller than the males.they dont wait long(they breed from very small sizes) or need anything special to get them going.

The male has the long flowing fins and a small bump on his head. The other two which I suspect to be female are about +-4cm without the flowing fins and bump on the head. I havent noticed any color on their bellies as yet.

also,do you really want them to breed because they can be quite prolific.have you thought about what you would do with the babies,cause i dont think theres much of a market for them?

 

I want try breeding and start off with an easy species, so convicts fit the description. About the babies, I have hungry growing oscar's in another tank, need I say more.

 

Hi tiger barb make sure you have another tank for the other convicts that are not breeding as they will fight. Hope all goes well
