    Hi all,

I have a crazy notion to use GHA to simulate a field of grass in microscale on the substrate, but am not sure whether this can be achieved without crazy amounts of effort keeping it away from everywhere else in the tank. Can this be done?

    Thanks!

Hmm,I saw someone attempt it on the entire bottom of a tank before to try create that grassy look you're describing.

They seeded the otherwise empty tank with the green hair algae from another tank and blasted the lighting and fertilizer.

I saw it on YouTube but they never posted the final results, think it's safe to assume it didn't work out.

Would look amazing if you could get it right though... why not try ?

I've seen it done in marine tanks but there are algae species (maiden's hair iirc) that make this a lot easier. Us bathwater guys aren't as lucky. I don't know if I want to make the attempt lol, it sounds like pain.

With new tank syndrome, my new set up might inadvertently grow itself an algae lawn haha.

Try a dark start? I'm going to do that with my new setup. It'll give me time to collect plants as well.

Wish I had the patience for that. Once I get my hands on a tank, I'm all in straight away. Will suffer silently with the algae issues until it stabilizes
