    It’s quite funny......
There are two males and 4 females
This male has two wives. The other male (has some shells at the opposite side of the tank) has just 1 wife and keeps chasing the extra one away. And she has now moved into a shell on her own

Looks Great, you are going to be one of the reasons for me having multiple tanks again :D

    Thanks

    Very much so
I am really pleased I made the change

Go on, you know you want to :p
The fantastic thing about Tangs, is there is a species to fit any tank size. From frontosa in 500L +, to some of the smaller shellies that would be ok in a nano tank. And everything in between

    Thanks.

The fish do the shell designing.
Well they bury them to below the the level of the substrate. They go until they get to the glass bottom.
Is fun to watch them move one piece of gravel at a time.
Ideally, the substrate should be fine sand. I have tried that before and it always ends up clogging the filter. So have settled on the smallest grain of gravel that I could find.

@Reedfish Fantastic setup! I am drooling with envy

I could be wrong but I could see your Cyprichromis leptosoma female holding already as you mentiond? And you say the ocellatus doesnt bother the multies? I never had the chance to keep multies or nigripinnis. You are so lucky!

The ocellatus are tough as nails. When I used to move their shells, they would outright swim up and start biting my fingers. Those fish have no fear

    Thank you
I wanted a Tang setup. But with a difference. Not just a pile of rocks.
My water is hard. So I think the wood and plants works. No change in ph or hardness

The lfs I got most of them from imports from the Czeck Republic. They have about 50 different species and colour forms and localities at any one time. Whenever I go there, I feel like a child in a sweet shop!

There are about 5 piles of snails. The Multies have claimed 3. But the ocellatus don’t seem as obsessed with the shells. One has set up a home near a pile, but the rest are quite happy in open water.

The ocellatus “attack” the hoover intake when I do a water change. Have to be careful not to suck one up by mistake.

It’s small round gravel. So no sharp edges.

Went to the lfs this morning. Since we seem to be heading swiftly towards lockdown again, thought I may was well as well stock up on frozen food while I can.

Ended up buying a few more plants. A pot of Microsorum, and a clump of Vallis.
And also got a few more bits of wood for the pile. Soaked them in boiling water and then into the tank they went. Should have possibly soaked for a few days to get the tannins out - May make the water go yellow. But I am too impatient

Rays still there unsold. Doesn’t surprise me as imo they are asking way too much for them.

Sounds like your lfs keeps a nice selection
If I may ask, what are they asking for the Ray's?
I saw on the news last night that you guys are heading back to stricter lockdown rules again.. sorry to hear.
Guess you did the move just in time!

    @MariaS
    They want £700 (R15,500 approx)
I paid £300, yes five years ago, and they were smaller.
But we weren’t in the middle of a global pandemic, and all the turmoil that has come with it.

Yes, we are sliding back towards full lockdown. :(
So frustrating, but not much we can do

This morning the pair of leleupi seem to have set up home in a cave that I had created yesterday with some of the new wood.
