Competition. Just for the fun of it.

On the Alfa Forum I belong to, there is a yearly competition.

Basically, you nominate someones car that you have seen.
There are a few categories IE 60's, 70's 80's modern alfas etc etc..
These are all categorised into polled threads, to which all the users vote.
The winner gets a free yearly membership

I was thinking, We could do something the same here just for fun. First prize being a self paid trip to your local pet shop, and the honour of writing something cheezy in your signature.


Basically we could split up the categories into tank sizes.

< 45cm
45 - 60cm
60 -90cm
90 -120cm
>120cm
Ponds

Planted or unplanted. Biosphere or smartie collection. It does not matter, as long as it is well maintained.

For you to be nominated, you would need a thread with a here is my tank, and someone would nominate it in the competition thread (Not this one)


What do you guys think. Light hearted, and fun. No flaming (there is enough already) and a chance to show off your skills.

was there not a thread a while back about competitions?
some thing about they don't want it because it kills the forum or something like that?
can't remember exactly but we can try this one see what happens....
O yes I remember 1 point was favoritism because people would vote for there buddies tank even if it was not the best and that is a big problem.....

I agree on the favortism of people voting for their buddies system but hopefully people on this site is mature and will be fair when voting

 

I am all for competitions as long as it is far and there are no stupid comments on peoples tanks..... I have see forums close down because of stupid little things like that and I do not want to see the same happen here.

 

:rofl: RuanM, obviously you do not really know some of the peeps we have on this site. They love to :tomato:, and :ridinghorse:, and when they are bored they will also :boxing: and :fight:

 

Why not have a thread where we post pictures of our tanks.... You only allowed to poast say 3 pictures MAX. NO comments allowed, ONLY pictures, and then the sponsors discuss amongst themselves privately who should win the aquarist trophy for the month?

No comments means that we can't "be-little" each other's tanks... or say things to increase favour for our own tanks. Only comment you allowed to give is specs.?

Great Idea - I like the idea of posting pictures and then voting, but why only the sponsors ??? All the members should vote as far as I am concerned...

A nice example of how it could be and i think there will be a lot less favouritism on tasa than there as we all share a genuine appritiation for the difficulties and costs of setting up a realy awsome looking tank .

 

to build on zoom's idea...

pics should be emailed privately to Rory who should then setup a thread and post the pics - this way we dont know who's tank it is.

the thread is then opened for voting and everyone should post their votes...

this becomes a very transparent selection process of the winner...

This sounds like fun! Great Idea Zoom. I'm with Zafgak, we should all vote, Dolphin has fine tuned the process perfectly, we vote for tanks that we not too sure who they belong to, untill the winner is announced, that adds a bit of mystry to it aswell.
