    Hi all

So I am looking at getting a larger sized fish or school for my 4ft 260l planted tank

Currently I house a green phantom pleco and an inspector pleco ( want 2 more different plecos) have 10 rosyfin Tetras, few rummys, few harlequins, 4 neon dwarf rainbows, 2 boesmani rainbows, 2 angels that are still small, 5 otos, and a bunch of corys and will still want more.

I would love a discus or 5 but obviously they don't do well in these tanks.

    Would a severum/deacon work?

Any ideas for something that is definitely going to catch my eye everytime I walk in.

I know my tank is pretty stocked but it's just missing something.

    All help would be great!

    Thanks
    Grant

Also looking to add some CPDs when @Deadpool has some available. Maybe even a few apistos or rams. @Marco do you have any advice here?

Deacons are apparently extremely aggressive, and don't do well in a community tank.
    Apistogramma Cacatoides might work.

Okay I'll skip those then. Ya was thinking of cacatouides especially the golden ones. Or even a trifasciata

@Pezulu, From my experience and I have a few of them, they are not agressive towards other tank mates

As they grow older they will bicker with each other amongsts themselves if you have more than one male but I have never seen damage being done
If they pair off and spawn then like any other cichlid they are territorial and will chase tank mates away from their part of the tank but again they have never actually hurt any tank mates
I have never seen a deacon kept as single specimen be agressive to other tank mates

However, they do grow quite big and the angels will also grow so I wouldnt recommend them for the size tank together with so many other fish

    @MariaS - thanks.
I was repeating what I was told at an LFS yesterday.
I was very tempted to get some Deacons, but the assistant told me that they wouldn't do well in a community tank.

No.... I have 5 deacons in the one tank and the two red ones are about 15cm already, the red shoulders about 12cm and the turqoise one the same
I put in my little electric blue acaras from the spawn I had in January and they were about 4cm and the deacons have nevr harmed them

When 2 of them paired up and spawned, yes, they wouldnt allow anyone near the eggs but other than that they not a problem at all

So @MariaS I could probably keep them from a small size? I know the angels will get pretty big but I won't get any more I'm happy with my two. Have a big black angel in my 3ft and he bullies some fish but very rarely.

You could in terms of compatability but like i said, they grow big... I think bigger than angels so watch for overstocking in long run...

The apistos and rams are much smaller so I think thats a good idea
Also there are some stunning varieties of boesmani rainbows, a few more of those would also look stunning. They big enough to make a nice display yet not too big

I would personally also love some Deacons in my 4ft community tank.
Then again, the tank has guppies, 4 swordtails, 2 Ancistrus, 10 Harlquin Rasboras and a Betta in.
    Will they be safe?
There is a LFS in Benoni that has some very red/orange deacons.
    How do you determine gender?
