This is the fish in my main display tank and some observations.

    7 Kribs

One adult male died recently now the other male visits 2 adult females. They lost the whole batch of fry because his not doing his part with his original mate. Hanky panky! The one paired spawed 3 times and the some fry survived. I remove fry after a week.

    2 Chinese algae eaters

Becoming a problem. About 12cm and chasses everything around. I would like to get them out. Don’t know how Im going to catch them.

    2 Kuhli loaches

Doing well but only saw the twice in 2 months. Obviously active at night so im feeding them twice a week a hour after lights out. The rest of the time I presume they scavange.

    5 Black Neons tetra

Nice and fat. Don’t really school well, maybe I must add more.

    8 Seprae tetras

Got 4 of these when I set up the tank for the cycling. Didn’t really like them cos they bullied the fish I added after cycling. Got more to up the school size to 12 and problem solved. Lost 4 over time and the remaining 8 very healthy and a pleasure to have and watch. Active fish.

    2 Panda corry
    1 Peppered Corry

I know they are schooling fish and will add more soon. Cute is the only word I can describe them. The world can fall apart around them but they just keep on with there business.

    2 small Angels

Didn’t really wanted to ad them as they get to big and might bully the rest later. Madam in the house wanted them and how can I say no? When they get to big I shall exchange them at the LFS for 2 small ones again. Very calm fish in my tank. They like watching TV.lol

    2 Green barbs

Huge fat buggers! Only really into themselves and don’t really bother anyone, unlike there reputation. Need to get more to up the school but they seem to be happy.

    7 Tiger barbs

Fairly new additions and school lovely. Active busy little guys. Love to have them. When I syphon they nibble on the hands.

    2 Swordtails

Something funny happened here. Got a pair. One with the elongated tail(male) and one without(female). Male died later on so the female were alone. She got aggresive and killed 5 neons(I saw here). Then…..she actually grew a tailfin like the male! Got another pair and the new male killed the old female which tured into the male. Am I crazy?

    3 Platies

A white pair and a black and orange pair. One black platty died. The two white platties is ver active and always took inlove.

    1 Fire tetra

Got it as a orphan. Must get buddies but just don’t get to it. Sometimes schooling with the serpae

    10 Harlequins

    Perfect schoolers. Love them.

    5 Blue line tetras

Getting bigger than expected and can be bullies. Not really schooling and the blue line is not as vivid.

    1 Siamese fighter

Doing pretty mush his own thing. Don’t bully or get bullied. Really tamed and will eat from my hands.

    3 Pearl gouramies

Lovely looking fish. Spending hours hanging under the hornwort. Lost one due to constipation I think. Noticed too late.

    8 Rummynoses

Bough 5 but 3 died. Noutorious for just dieing. Got 5 more and they really coloured up very fast. Seems happy. Funny to watch as they go from left to right al day long doing the full 2.5 meters.

    3 Rosy barbs

To fat and the male looks like gold fish. Don’t like him. The females is fine.

    10 Glowlights tetra

Stunning. The orange line really stands out. Nice mature fish. Have them for 3 odd months and no losses

    10 Bloodfins tetra

Good looking with nice red tail. Not schooling great. Have them about a month and no losses.

    10 Neon tetra

New additions and apparently better stock. Semi adult fish but relatively strong. School to small and they tend to break up.

    10 Red eye Tetra

Plain silver fish with those red eyes. Nice big adult fish and the school is always full. Swim in front of the main display glass in full view.

    7 Zebra Danios

New additions but lost one last night. I manage to kill the most hardy fish out there, lol. The blue sheen look lovely under my lights. It is the long fin variety.

    2 Butterfly plecos

Shy creatures. Usually on the back glass and also seems to like being in the bubbles.

    6 Galaxy rasboras

I am very mush impressed with these stunning looking fish. The smallest specie in the tank but really tuff. They got there spot in the tank(top right) and stay there more or less in a school.

    2 Redtail sharks

Still babies. Not really a community fish so I shall keep a eye on them when they grow to big. Very little interaction between the two.

    Hi Go-Big!
You might remember when I had a similar prob with my cae. I spent most of a morning trying to catch the crafty little b... finally got a light-bulb moment! I put one of those guppy fry saver boxes in, with an algae pebble inside(I figure any small object with lots of algae would do). The greedy little fella was in there in a flash, then I just slipped the net over the front opening & lifted the whole shebang out. One problem solved. Praps you can scheme up something similar?

    Cool Post - interesting

I also have 1 CAE in my 1200l (actaully a lemon algae eater) some people say albino CAE

He's about 10cm - but does not bother the other fish
BUT I have bigger community fish
    A big(ish Upside Down Catfish)
15 Giant Donios (good dither fish)
    12 Red torpedo Line barbs
    10 Biggest Congo Tetraes

Al lthe above hold their own - I will post a full observation list soon as well

Hi Dangerousd. yes i followed your build. Love your tank. I find that managing and stabilizing the big tank is eazier that the smaller tanks. Syphoning i do in sections and my water changing is rain water, so no issues with aging water.

Hey Go-Big... JA also had no problems with water (big tank really makes it diificult to mess up)

I actually just use water striaght from the hose into the tank and pour aqua safe in at the same time
Maybe a bit messey - but works for me....

Hose only on very very slowly - like trickle

We had hectic water restiction so i got a JOJO tank outside. As you know one waterchage is 250L plus. I pump directy from the outside tank threw a standby filter filled with carbon.

No you need more, atleast 1000L. It does not rain every week, so you must have for atleast a month supply. If that runs out you can still go tap water. I have 2200l and the maid do washing and i wet the garden aslo with that.

What is your rain water parameters like? I find that I must mix with tap water, otherwise the pH is too low and the water too soft. I am also worried about winter, when it do not rain. Think I will also go YoYo but tapwater only.

Hi tom. Im in George so no heavy industies for miles thus no acid rain. Ph 7-7.2

Yes my problem with tap water is the maturing prossess but if you fill a yoyo with ample tap water that would also solve my problem.
