So let's start from the beginning: Last night the bulb in my tank in my room, which houses a polyepterus and banjo cats, packed up. This morning I decide to leave the canopy off so that the plants can get a bit of light... Not a smart move. So I go off to school, and, luckily (at least in some ways) I'm feeling K@K, so I decide to call my mom to take me home. Get home, and the tank is EMPTY! Spend 10 minutes trying to find the Polypterus (the glass is pretty algified) Just as I give up, I lift up the canopy from the floor, and there he is! The floor wasn't wet around him, so he must have been there for a while... I would have only got home at about 5 30 otherwise, most certainly too late. So, lucky I was sick! I've heard that they escape, but for some stupid reason I didn't think it would happen to me! Eish, luckily he seems ok now... On a different note, I know that they can survive for a while outside the water, but for how long?
You got luck on your side! Wish mine would live. Had one jump out before just for a few seconds....and died. 10 minutes is a long time out the water. Wonder how long is too long?
somthing similar happened to us when we we still in primary school, we had a chinese weather loach if i remember, it was out of the tank for a while, apparantely, not to sure how true, they secrete a mucos around their bodies thus allowing them to be out of water for extended periods
I have no idea how long he was out for... Luckily it's not a hot day. He's at the top of the tank, not moving much. Hope he recovers, must be a massive shock.
I always know one of my fish escaped when all 8 of our cats sits in a circle next to the tank. they like watching fish on the floor.
Just thought you were talking about cory cats. Saw these 8 cory cats sitting in the tank watching the one on the floor laughting their butts off at the stupid fish who believed them when they said its better on the outside
