I have a large co2 canister, 10kgs I seem to remember, If I stand it upright (90' degrees) it just does not fit inside my tank cabinet, so I would need to tilt it at say 75' to 80’degrees. The fire extinguisher place I got it from said that would be fine, but I’ve now found this info –
Carbon dioxide in a cylinder exists primarily in the form of liquid CO2, only the head space of the cylinder contains gas. The liquid allows the cylinder to maintain a constant and high pressure. Because the cylinder contains liquid gas, it must always remain in the upright position.

Any suggestions or thoughts on this?

Can you cut a hole in the floor of the cabinet? Would that give you the extra space needed?

I think we actually need to understand the INSIDES of the container to be the correct decision. Does the valve let the air out through the top, or does it have a pipe that goes INTO the liquid. (different gases work differently with the nozzle attachements etc)

Zoom's got a point. That is maybe why they said it would be fine?

Thanks folks, will get some more info on my cylinder and get back to you. The cutting out idea is a good one Ferdie, as that would also support the bottle nicely. Impressed you think that I'm such a DIY bof that I have a jigsaw ! I seem to remember that it's still just too high with the regulator adding further height, but will measure again.

Getting itchy feet for the big Co2 turn on, just waiting to get one of those mini Hagen internal filters which Rudi suggested using as the diffuser..

Just spoke to another fire extinguisher company, can’t dam remember the name of the place in Paarden Island where I got mine from originally. Anyway they say that nearly all fire extinguishers available here work on a siphon tube system, so yes they can operate at an angle, but must not be too flat of course.

I wonder if having the canister not completely upright might accentuate the end of canister dump...?
