    Hi all,

My tank has been running for over 2 years and about a week ago, the water became cloudy all of a sudden. I changed water several times with dechlorinator and salt but still remains the same. I then removed all gravel, cleaned and put back and did water change again with no luck, any idea what could be the problem. TIA

    Hi @Neezo,

The cloudiness is caused by an algae bloom
There are various reasons it can happen like over feeding, not doing gravel vacs and excess debris either in hidden spots or mixed with the gravel..
Bottom line.. its caused by an imbalance somewhere
Cut down on feeding.. ensure there isnt debris trapped in dead spots.. gravel vac the substrate
doing all that combined with continuous water changes, it usually eventually clears up

However, I had it happen to me about 4 years ago and no matter how many water changes i did, it would not clear
I eventually installed a UV light/sterilizer and the water cleared in about 48 hours
I have alo never had an outbreak of ich since the UV is in

Ok thanks, will try and get a uv sterilizer, a bit pricey though, any idea who is reasonable

Petmasters is reasonably priced on equipment or Wazeers

But also make sure there are no dead spots that can be causing a problem

Just reduce feeding, do water changes and oxygenate the water. It goes away eventually

Edit: This is basically a cloud of opportunistic bacteria feeding on ammonia/nutrients in the water column. They will overuse their resources eventually. Extra aeration will prevent them from sucking all the oxygen from the water
