    Hi all.
    I have just set up a 450l aquarium. I put about 2 cm tetra complete substrate at the bottom and a good cap of seachem gravel on top. Did most of my planting and filled the aquarium. Yes I made sure not to disturb the gravel as best as I could. Got a juwel filter that came with the tank and also a 1500 pennplax canister filter. The water was very cloudy when I filled it but that was to be expected. Added some seachem clarity and the water was rather clear. My concern is if the lights are turned on 4 t5 lights and 3 reflectors there is a slight haze to the water if you look threw the front and side glass panels however, if you look in to the tank threw the top it is crystal clear to the bottom.

    I am dosing with seachem excel daily and I wonder if this could be the problem. If lights are off, tank looks very clear. May be I will give the glass a good clean when I do a water change but, I am not sure if it is the lights, reflectors or the curved glass that may be causing this problem. Took out some water yesterday and put it in to another tank and, it was crystal clear. Sorry for all these silly questions here. Hope you guys can help.

    Are you dosing the excel for a specific reason?

    Remember all new tanks go through the milky stage for a couple of weeks - its part of the cycle.

    Hi.
    The tank will be filled for one week tomorrow. I only used the excel because I have a number of plants in their and I thought it will help with the carbon intake for them. They seem to be thriving! Some of them even got some new shoots. Should I stop with the excel?

    first off dont worry about the cloudy water cycle period 6 to 8 weeks. a load of stuff gonna before then. does wit your exel maybe only once a week until your cycle has completed. dont take water out just leave it and do water test once or twice a week. have you got any fish in you your tank or are you doing fishless cycle?

    Just keep up with the water changes, the excel I would maybe dose 2 or 3 times a week rather - especially if you dont add any ferts.

    The rest will just take some time.

    @dash . .

    With seachem flourite, the milkiness does tend to stay a while. I did notice, in my tank, that there was a thin layer of white 'powder' on the inside of the glass.

    Excel wont cause any of the issues that you described.

    Hi all.

    Thank you very much for the responses. @doug I have not add fish as I am concerned about adding them to a new tank or using them as cycle fish. I know many people do this and it works out fine however you guys opinions on this? If you agree that I can add some, any recommendations on a good cycle fish?

    If you're dosing seachem prime and seachem stability, all you need to do is add a bit of fish food/pure ammonia and wait it out....

    On a recent phone call to you, you mentioned that you could add cycle fish but wont know what to do with them once the cycle is over. I do suggest a fish-less cycle.

    @TankMaster I didn't want to use fish I wasn't planning on keeping after the cycle. Hence: Corys and Clouds :)

    i cycled my first tank with a pair albino corrys. then took the same pair two years later cycled my next tank. then shame real hardy pair of corrys after spawning in both tanks i sold them with my juwel. so nothing wrong with planning on keeping your cycle fish or using corrys
