I will just rinse, assuming they have been cleaned before they were stored, and start using them.

Assuming that most backteria on them will be dead in any case. Let it soak in tap water for a day, chlorine/chloramine will take care of the nasties, could even add some bleach to the water. Have never used bleach myselfe though. Remove from water, rinse very good, and soak for another day or 2 in clean treated water to get rid of the bleach.

Good luck with it. Just make sure that all bleach is removed before using it.

Ok they are soaking in water, I will give the bleach a skip. Going to soak them for a few days and rice everyday.

Bleach works alot quicker just use the non scented one. Rinse a few times after the Bleach then the smell will disappear to be safe overdose with cheap anti chlorine.

Let the ceramics air dry after bleaching it, the chlorine in the bleach will evaporate leaving behind only sodium. You just give it a quick rinse before using it. Done it many times to clean pipes and all sorts of things.

Awesome Idea thanks @BoelderBeestie, I put them in water and bleach last night, will give them a good rinse this afternoon and let air dry as recommended and another rinse.

If you worried about bleach, The other alternative is to soak in a very strong salt solution.

However, if you do bleach, soak overnight in water with Prime of Safe, the same way as you reactivate Purigen and it will be fine

If I am in a hurry and just want to get this done and the quality of the ceramic is OK - I dump boiling water over them and rinse ... works well for open cell sponges also.

Thanks @f-fish, is have some time for it to soak in Jik. I am only going to switch on the fx5 on Sunday. We are not home on Saturday so I don't want to switch it on and nobody to monitor for leaks.

Those Fx5 are monster filters, just a bit hard to pimp if you wanna do your own thing form what I have heard and seen.

hi @f-fish I actually wanted to do this with my filter but finding the sponges in CPT is impossible
or I just don't know where to get them. I manage to find the supplier for Biohome Ultimate but
don't have the money for it now. Maybe in the new year sometime.
