    Hi All
I have a question, I got a tank a while back that had one of those backgrounds on. I asked the guy that I got it from whit what did he stick it and he said he used sunlight soap..... Know I have removed the background because I want to paint the back glass blue. but the soap has marked the glass badly. is there anything I can use to remove that soap marks?

Cleaning chemical that comes in wither a pre-mixed bottle (expensive route) or in a box (packaged very similar to Polyfiller). USUALLY a lot of stores actually keep the soap near the hardware section, probably because they are doff... but most hardwares and supermarkets carry it. The powder form is then mixed with water (depending on the strength you require) and is an EXCELLENT soap. You will laugh at this comment too...

It's actually made by Polycell. (Same company that makes Plascons Polycell polyfiller.)

Sugar soap can usually be found by the paint section in shops. Usually used to wash down walls before re-painting. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use sugar soap, but why go the expensive route - why not just use meths, surgical spirits or vinegar?

if the tank is empty, turn on its side and pour boiled water from the kettle, then use the resulting softened sunlight solution with one of those body washer plastic scrubbers, or a plastic pot scrubber, or a green scotchgaurd scrubber etc (anything with a bit of a scourer effect to it) and just wash away the soap. its just dried out sunlight, boiled water should soften and hidrate it

I would not do this no offence ment ferry but u taking a huge risk, the coefficient of expansion of float glass is 92 ( roughly , depends on were it is made) so all it will take is a 70 degree difference in a piece of glass to make it crack, what i mean by this is if u pour boiling water on a large piece of glass and if the glass is that slightest bit cold it will crack. the spot were the water is falling will be 90 degrees and the the piece not getting the boiling water will be say 15 degrees so the difference in tempreature is to great and the glass cant cope

    just my thoughts :)

I don't think boiled water is such a good idea - it can crack the glass. Rather stick to warm water and soaps.

if its a warm sunny day, and the temp is in high 20's, it wont do anything, it would crack if it was still winter and its friggin cold where the tank is, the temp difference would be too great,
i've done it before, small steady stream pour, when done, wash

otherwise just use luke warm or normal geyser warm, its just about the heat, warm water helps hidrate the soap skim

    or at least dissolve it
