This being a vBulletin board I believe it's fairly easy to make a thread user-lockable, which would be the perfect solution.

Of course you only want the original poster to be able to lock it, and only in Classifieds, but I have seen it done elsewhere.

Why not just post saying that it is sold, swapped or found?

Because Vee after a while the Classifieds will become like a rubbish bin:p. There should be time limit like a month or so after the goods have been sold/swooped/wanted (gotten) for other users to use as there pricing ideas. There should also maybe be a classifieds admin that you can go to with questions on what price he/she thinks is appropriate for what is being sold/swooped/wanted. They must know the pricing of livestock, goods and other goods. In other words have worked or still work in an LFS. Just my opinion.

Point taken Steve :D But even if the thread is 'closed' it is still available to view. So perhaps it should be deleted instead :)

I will enable it for users to be able to close their own threads in the classifieds. Please post a note saying "sold" or whatever when you close it though.

I enabled it by the way. You'll only be able to test if you have a thread in the classifieds though. Look at the top of the thread and there's a menu called "thread tools". Choose "close thread" and click "perform action". If you make a mistake you should be able to open it as well.

I would suggest never deleting posts (unless if rules are broken, etc.), because new posts = new content, and search engines love crawling forums and blogs looking for fresh content (ie new posts/replies/etc.) to index.

Better indexing = higher rankings = more organic (free) traffic to the forum.

The idea that users can now close their own thread is a good one. As is the suggestion to have a classifieds administrator.

    Totally agree with chas84 here.
