    Hi Guys,

I would just like to add. If you are genuinely interested in buying an item, feel free to ask the seller questions.

But please do not get into a debate about quality or price.
    It's not polite.

    Thanks

    100% @Reedfish

Too expensive for you.. leave it walk away... just like you would do at the shops

If it doesn't sell its the seller's prerogative to drop the price but, its really not nice to have arguments like this..

what if one wants to make an offer like say someone has something listed as R1500 and you want to offer R1200 is that considered an argument?

    Private Message the Seller.
I think that would be the polite thing to do.

I think it comes down to manners

For eg, there is a difference between:

If a seller is offering a heater for R100 for eg.
You say to him: Been a tough month financially, would you be willing to consider R90?
    IMO - that's ok.

But to say -the lfs sells them for R110, so how can you ask for R100? Or yours is the old model, so you are asking too much.
    That IMO - not ok.

As @MariaS says if it's not for you (for whatever reason), just walk away, as you would in a shop.
No need to push the seller into a corner with the possible aim of getting him to reduce his price.

And I would say that the above applies to both discussion on the open Forum and a PM.

Mutual respect, speak to a forum member like you would like to be spoken to.

This is also contradictory to the rules shared above as they also state all negotiations must be performed on the open forum and only personal details shared on PM

I agree with this though but I'd say this should apply to all conversations not only over the interent ;)

Agreed plus if age really factors into something you can be polite and say I'd offer R90 for said item due to age, because some items like lights and tanks only last so long lights burnout and tanks need to be re sealed - IMO this makes sense

I apologize if my response was out of line. On several occasions items I have had for sale were questioned by the same party. Each time they sold. It almost seemed like a personal vendetta against anything I had to sell.

    I agree with @Reedfish

Nothing wrong with saying, I would love to take it but my budget a bit tight at moment
I can afford to offer you .. so much.. If you willing to accept I will gladly take it
There is a big difference between negotiating and just taking off and attacking someone ..

Attacking a person and going on about how you can get cheaper or same price somewhere else, is just not on.
If you standing in the middle of Woollies, you not going to insult the staff and have an argument .. you walk out and go somewhere else so.. what makes it so different on line?
