I always find my shrimp eat BBA once it turns pink

 

Aah that makes sense, so you recon they eating the dying BBA.

 

jip. Wont touch the black stuff but as soon as it turns pink its part of their diet apparently

You can clearly see that 2019 was a light touch in my tanks ... not much updating and not much rescaping. At least I am still in the hobby in my own way ;-).

Planning on doing citric acid dips on some plants that are moving form buckets to tanks. Having now cleaned and mothballed 6 small tanks and basically done with some heavy pulling of plants in all of the bigger indoor tanks during this period, about 4 checkers bags full, I now have a little bit of space to move plants around again. So glad I found my own thread - since I could not remember the citric acid recipe...

Ferdie just a question around your experimentation. How significant a role do you think your CuC played in the eradication of the algae on your plants after the citric acid dip?

 

@f-fish thanks for sharing that it was very informative. Something I will def try on some plants I have with stubborn BBA. I tried all the other methods so far and nothing really seems to work with BBA other than as much physical removal as is possible in my experience.

I suspect the Citric Acid when dipped for the correct time, will kill the algae ... from what I have seen you do not need anything to "remove" it if the dipping worked 100%. If you did it for too short a period then the cleaners help in removing the now weaker algae.

BBA in a tank - I suspect, and how I have fixed it in my tanks, was an imbalance for bacteria caused mostly by weak or dying plants and a lack of O2 to correct the bacterial imbalance. The more stable a tank the less chances that BBA will take hold. Thanks have BBA, but it should not be your main feature.

I posted about BBA and B12 vitamins ... see if you can find that thread, maybe that will help in giving you some pointers.
