    Did anyone hear or maybe know about the fish hatchery the chinese people are going to invest in the Xhariep in SA.

    Wonder what kind of fish they are going to breed. Maybe we will be able to get some good plants in the Free State.

    Nmae changes, place stays the same!!!

    [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] :p

    Like Tshwane Pretoria
    Egoli Johannesburg
    Mangaung Bloemfontein

    Gariep is now accorded the "correct" ethnic spelling Xhariep
    I'm sure both spellings wil persist for some time to come...

    Gariep Fish hatchery produces Yellow Fish, Carp and Barbel .
    Typical South African Barbel are Clarias gariepinus

    wonder if it'll become Clarias xhariepinus:eek:

    fancy trying to work out if it's Chinese and HOW da heck to pronounce it!!??

    Govt. reports indicate a KEEN level of interested involvement at the current hatchery, with some commitment from Peoples Republic Of China.

    Species for future?
    It's too soon as parliament are still deciding which way to go with public-private sector involvement.

    Also species under discussion for aquaculture may well increase or decrease as needs are being discussed.

    Local and international species are being reviewed.

    The Gariep facility was staffed by largely unskilled, or lowskilled workers. It has been operating way under capacity for a number of reasons.
