Change from internal sump to HOB filter

    Hi ladies and gents

    I would like to remove the internal sump from my 4 foot setup, however, I want to try to do it without removing any livestock etc.

    Can I do this by doing it at the same time as a water change?

    I have the opportunity to get an Aquaclear 70 as a straight swap for my Aquaclear 110.

    Has anyone made this kind of change? What are the risks? I will had the filter media straight to the HOB filter, so no seeding needed. I was, however, thinking of adding stability for a week just to let it settle in.

    Will the HOB hold the same amount of biomedia as the sump? In which case it shouldn’t be a problem, I think.
    Assuming that the HOB is good. If there’s a bit of extra biomedia left, just scatter it on the gravel out of sight. But if there’s significantly less space for biomedia it might be tricky?
    Stability for a week under such circumstances seems like a good insurance policy.

    Providing all your media fits into the HOB so that you dont downgrade your filtration it's not a problem at all
    You can add stability for a week for peace of mind
    Not sure what your internal sump looks like
    I think I remember it being glass?
    That would be my worry.. that something breaks
