Like in the ones you catch in the dams. Preferable big ones.

Well if they are caught in our SA dams, then you need a permit to keep them.

Besides being on the blacklist, they're also a really horrible aquarium fish. They get large (about a meter, sometimes more), are extremely messy, and are intolerant of tank mates.

There are many other catfish which would make much better aquarium specimens.

Just actually needs a big female to do an artificial insemination project for a Crocodile Farm in Witbank. And yes, I am licenced in aqua culture for Tilapia and Barbell by the Gauteng Goverment and Nature Conservation.

Keshen that doesn't look like the local barbel... looks more like the American Ictalurus sp.. Don't know if that's legal (fish farmer or not), nor do I think they will survive here.

Saw this program on Nat Geo once where a bunch of Southern Red Necks practise something called " catfish tickling" - they catch big(30 - 40kg + ) Channel catfish by hand in the Mississipi river and it's tributaries....Ocasionaly some of these guys get drowned by the realy big ones....

I believe the other name is "Noodling"

May I ask why you want barbel? For a pond? or to chow your culls?
