    Hi Guys,

I have three large (20 cm) L168 loricariad catfishes, apparently if you check on Planet Catfish they have now been called Dekeyseria brachyura. I think that I have two males and one female. I originally bought them to eat algae in my discus system, but they are not good algae eaters. They are lovely catfish for the specialist, and they are in perfect health, but they are just not good algae eaters.

For this reason, I would like to swop them for good algae eaters. What I am looking for are 6 small, say 10 cm L183 catfishes. These are the black ancistrus with the white dots and the white tail seam and are called Ancistrus dolichopterus, they are however also often referred to as Ancistrus hoplogenys. They are not uncommon in South Africa.

Pics follow this message. If you could contact me I would appreciate it. I could also bring them to Johannesburg when next I visit there, but the best would be if I could swop them with someone in the CT area.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,

If you come up to Jhb, and still have not found any, I believe I saw some of those Ancistrus at Clearwater Mall petshop. They were still very tiny at the time... and they had labelled them as "black spotted ancistrus."

I can PM you the contact number of the shop if you would like to get hold of them.

    Hi Zoom,

Thanks for this information, the fishes sound like what I am looking for. My plans for a JNB visit are not finalized, but let us see if it perhaps works out.

    Many thanks and kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,

I was fortunate enough to get a good look at my little Ancistrus now. They so small at the moment, so to spot them is an achievement on it's own.

And i can confirm 99% sure that what you are looking for are what I bought from Clearwater mall LPS. My wife chose then about 3 weeks ago, and they had about 30-40 of them in their tanks. Unfortunately, as you have possible guessed, my wife loves her little baby Ancistrus, and I cannot part with them.

I do know that these particular Ancistrus are fairly common up here in Jozi.

On a more humourous note... what is the plurasl for Ancistrus??? Ancistrai???

I have a few of these for you :)

The L168 would make a nice addition to my group of them...

    Hi Zoom,

Do you remember what the price was of the Ancistrus in the shop. And yes, the joys of the English language, as a plural you would just simply write Ancistrus. It is just like one fish, many fish......

    Hi Risen,

I would prefer a swop because these jobs were expensive....

Dolphin, are you saying that you have L183s? What size are they?

Let us see if we can unravel all this.....

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Prof,

I paid R45.00 each for them

Here is a pic of the ones we bought. I am sure they are the one's you are looking for.

Please excuse the quality. I am no photographer, and definately do not have the correct equipment.

    Hi Dolphin,
I unfortunately cannot pass my 3 to the Prof, as they are my wife's fish, and she said 'no'! I was just saying I know a LPS where I got mine from.

Feel free to barter, bargain, trade with the Prof!
